rusty nails

i dont know but i do get good at digging deep holes lol

Not completely, I don't think. Most will agree that if you don't dig an occasional bent, rusty nail, you are likely missing some silver (as many deep silvers sound nearly identical). I would have to concur with that, from my experience...

When I first starting using the SE I chased quite a few nails, but once I learned a few techniques from books and other hunters the occasions of digging a nail have been few. Once in a while I'll dig one when I get lazy and don't follow techniques learned or I just try to wish :shrug:a silver out of the hole . Of course if I'm not sure of the sound I'll dig it, I did that the other day and out pops a large cent at about 10"s...

That's a LOT of trash McDave.... are you saving for scrap?? :bouncy:

I still dig a few as well..but the techniques that Bryce provides help considerably. Sometimes it just sounds too good to pass up so I dig...and dig...and dig!!

I dig any signal that sounds even remotely good ... I have a hard time passing them up.

Well at least you know you aren't passing up silver! I find the coolest stuff digging those iffy signals.

I dug nails and small iron on occasion with the stock coil on my ex 2. Rarely do I dig nails with the sef coil running high sens and gain.

Ok dont feel bad i was a nail magnet today on my first day out with the SE..dug a few of them up but like you all say..ya never know.

After seven years with my Explorer, I still occasionally dig a nail or two. They are usually bent. I just don't like passing up iffy signals. HH

That's my experience, too. The bent ones will sound good in several directions, while most will only sound good in one direction.

Heck we all get fooled but variability, cursor movement and a keen ear enables us to get fooled less often. Bottom line if you are not sure dig and with experience in the field you won't get fooled as often.

I also dig nails. Went out this morning and had a good signal. Dug like crazy and found six nails. Some were bent but they all had been there awhile. I'll keep trying.

Today I dug five or six very rusty nails; all giving me an 'iffy' tone/signal, some were bent but most were straight.

I recently read a post by Bryce where he said he would dig if he got a good signal in two of the four angles while walking around the target. I normally wouldn
