Russian AKA Sorex Pro Video...and no adds

I have been testing several Russian metal detectors the past month and a half.

I shot this one tonight ouside in the dark in my test garden. I found that using the backlight in the dark with the camera mounted to my detecting arm gave me the best example of the meter and hodogrpah display.

My ground is pretty rough for NOT being in Vorginia so I don't get as great of depth as some in more mild ground...although I am nowhere near some of that red Virginia stuff. In more moderate ground I would see at the least another inch or so in depth. Also in the woods here the soil is mild and we get quite a bit better responses.

Anyway, I am not saying this is going to beat or blow away any detector you currently own...then again I didn't say it wouldn't. I make no claims...I don't sell them...so I gain nothing from depth claims.

Looks quite impressive......as good as anything on the market I would imagine......there is a lot of good equipment coming from that part of the world now.

.that would be a good opinion...as good as anything. I would say it matches the F-70 and probably the F-75 in depth and overall performance.....with each having some advantage that the other does not. I did not go over the menu options in the video...but it has more adaptability in some cases.

Does it make it better...maybe....maybe not. Look at the V3i...more menu's in that than any machine I ever used...but not any deeper than the F-75 or Etrac or even the Sorex Pro....so what does an abundance of menus do for you? For me...they make me fiddle too much...seeking that ever elusive PERFECT menu setting.

I think the Sorex and it's siblings have a good amount of options without being too much.

Then again grab the F-70..turn it on...GB and off I go...and find the exact same targets...:) But...the Sorex Pro is way COOLER to use.....and cool has it's plus factor:detecting:

I have argued long and hard at times about programs for this and that.....in my opinion they are a load of rubbish.....people believe they make a difference but they are just gimmicks made up by the marketing men to sell detectors at huge prices. If a detector is fairly deep, fairly fast responding and has good discrimination what more do you need?Like you I have owned many detectors and I have found that a simple approach yields the best results.Furthermore, the Russians are excellent engineers so I expect that their detectors are easily able to compete with all the other manufacturers.Keep everybody posted on your finds......it is always good to have options when choosing a new detector.Neil.

Well today was a sultry 23 degrees here in Maine and I was able to get in a half day with the Sorex.

Now I took the camera but ended up shooting a video of my hunting partner using the F-70 with the 12x13" N.E.L coil. We have been digging a cache of 1789 French 2 Sous coins the past few months. Kind of an odd coin to stash as it was not that valuable even back then.

However I was using the Sorex for 4 hours. This is in a colonial celar hole area with way too much iron trash...mostly hand cut nails. One sweep and you have a dozen or more nail targets under the coil...even 30-40 yards from the celar. Now the Sorex handled the trash very well and that was with the 9x12 DD.

Anyway I dug a few deep coins. We have hit this hard with the AT Pro which did good but was not the deepest detector I could use.

I dug a 2 Sous about 8-9 inches..nothing impressive accept a 2 Sous is wafer thin and hard to detect beyond 8" with alot of detectors. The deepest coin was an 1865 2 cent piece that came up around 11". I was going to video it but the ground was frozen solid and it takes 10 minutes to bust the frost and I was tired of trying to do both. Now I know it was just a tad beyond 10" because I brought a tape measure today to get an idea of depth. I had dug down several times and had not hit the coin at 10- 11" and I could finally detect it with the Minelab Propointer in the bottom. When I stuck my relic shovel in to just kinda scrape up a couple of inches of soil it popped out so it was just around the 11" mark.

I would not think I could have detected it much deeper...another 1/2" and it would have been only a response on the threshold all metal side ( detector runs mixed mode)....and the disc audio would not have repsonded.

Wish I would have videod it but it was after several hours of freezing cold and I was tired.

Now I also dug what looks like a ribbon holder,,,,you know the copper piece that a military ribbon is held by. Now that was down between 11"-12" and that was a solid signal..could easily have hit it another inch or two with ease. I was actually shocked at how deep it was for how strong it came in.

Now I know the Russians seem to design their detectors with larger coins and war relics in mind verses say the English who look for those tiny hand hammered coins. So it seems that this detector hits relics deep...nice and deep....whereas small silver coins of ours like dimes and half dimes it hits about as deep as an f-70 or so. Which is no slouch as I had that N.EL. tornado on the F-70 and when we checked the coin signals the machines were about even.

I bet if you were a metal detector manufacturer you would be quite happy to export your detectors to Russia regardless of past history.Whatever the problems are between nations........and there are still many..........we all have to try and move forward and concentrate on the present and the future if we are to sort out our differences.Like yourself,i do not see Russia in too positive a light but refusing to buy a metal detector from there is not going to make any difference historically or politically.....in fact, trade between countries helps to secure better relations. We can not forget the past but let us use it as a tool to learn from our mistakes and not keep bringing it up for negative actions in the present. Also, let us not forget that without Russia's contribution in ww2 the outcome could have been different.Anyway, with all the excellent U.S made machines you have you do not need to rely on anybody else's detectors.....it is just nice to have different options.....and very interesting to see videos and info on new machines.

azsh07,do not get embroiled in a war of words with yowow, this discussion is about a metal detector and not politics.Whatever his grievances.....and he may have good reason for them........he should not have bought them up here. There is a views section on this forum which is a more suitable place to air his views on such matters......his patriotism is commendable but not really relevant to information on a metal detector......like you say,why make such a comment in the first place.

That is a cool detector.I like the display, and the bar graph. There is some great looking detectors being made all over!. :O

Not a problem. Besides as I said I do not sell them. It is just information on what else is out there. Good...Bad....whatever.

I do not thhink they like putin at all.Anyway keep us informed about the detector.....especially comparisons with other machines.I like the look of that new detector from italy the desert gold.......from the videos it looks like a powerful machine. My only reservation is that because I am English I don't know if I should buy one because of the Roman invasion over 2000 years ago.

Interesting machine. Thanks for posting about it.

...buys one or not. I am not a dealer....I do not sell metal detectors. I simply like to see how other engineers approach designing their units.

As for BowWow below. He can blow it out his grumpy hypocritical @ss. Not going to back off or back down on that. I did not ask for his political opinion on Russia...and I could care less...actually I don't care what anyone thinks.

I thought it was an interesting approach to displaying the target meter and graph....that is all.

I was bored this winter so I thought why not try one...all I can lose is some money....since I can take money with me when I die...what the heck.

Is it better than anything else...probably not. Does it do things differently....sure does...in some cases...but in the end it goes beep over a metal target.

What I can't stand are @ssholes who post simply to hear their own opinions to satisfy some pathetic lack of self worth in their own lives...and yes BowWow that is aimed at you. If you hate all Russians...hey cool with me...I don't give a cr@p about you, your life....and who you like and who you hate. Let your hatred ruin what is left of your life...just keep it out of my threads. We get it...your life sucks...your miserable and you blame others...whatever.

It is just a friggin detector..it isn't a piece of military hardware...there is no national security issue here....it is a freakin toy.....geez....dude....the VA has some good PTSD meds these days...and for free.....go check into the metal health clinic and get some please.

However.....since he wants to see this thread die because I must be a communist sympathizer ( hah...)...and we let this distraction run. Cool.....we will give him his way and let this forum be governed by paranoid nutbags.

So...since I don't have any financial gain in this...I don't mind deleting the video.

Oh hey Bowwow @sshole..Russia never declared war on the US either you insane mental case...but oh...the southern confederate states did...so hope you don't buy anythign from the southern US either....jack@ss.

Have fun with your BowWow nut job. I

I like checking out detectors made overseas, you never know what sleeper machines they have over there.
The Sorex is different and interesting, would mind trying one. Just out of my budget range.

Glad someone on this side of the pond took a dare bought and tried one!

Here's some more info about them: http://nera-s.net/pdf/DSMD_catalog.pdf

I originally made a post about them back in June 2010 about the Sorex.

How about this one:

M72-400.gif

AKA SIGNUM
AKA SIGNUM MFT 7272M $1090.00 US
- built on a new multi-frequency technology MFT, with software and hardware assembly to disperse to the extreme sensitivity of the USSR 5 cents to 65 cm. Updated design metal detector includes a new lightweight, just 1320 g, increased moisture protection, comfortable rubber pen detector prevents slipping.

MFT technology allows you to connect to a metal detector coil with any operating frequency, the detector itself is customized for the desired frequency from 1 to 30 kHz. In the future, will be implemented by a universal principle of the multi-frequency EPR, through the use of a special drive.

New firmware "1.00.C" - added mode M / M - "metallomusora" - fast - space harmonic filtering - typical speed signal processing and is designed to work on trashy areas. Characterized by fast processing of sensor signals from nearby targets, removed "blyamkone" when you press the keys.

I decided to remove any public videos.

I have put them into a private setting that is not accessible to anyone here.

This should keep everyone happy now. No b#tching or whining needed.

See...all gone.....now everyone here can go back to being happy.

Don't let that one b#tch bug you. Do your thing azsh..... 99.99% of us appreciate your pictures and info.

Scott Me,

Please don't leave with your videos because of one bully, we would like to see more of your vids, very interesting material. If you are the same ScottMe that posted in the old Carl's forum, you also came out with some neat detector mods back then. Like the MadMax Baron, and the Ultimate Toltec 100, do you do any of those mods now?

I do not do those mods anymore. I used to know where a few are actually...a friend had one...the yellow MadMAx Baron...hah...that was a great mod. My alltime favorite one. Man I miss that machine.

...people don't get political. I knew I would run into this with them being from Russia. Got nasty on another forum and I was not in the mood for it again.

I do this for the fun of it...and if it stops being fun then I have no need to post videos. Darn things take a couple hours to edit and upload....

There are some cool things with these detectors. The Signum MFT has some potential to be impressive. For me to spend $1300.00 for one including shipping ( yah the add says $1050 but the dollar has dropped against the Ruple)...and just start arguments...man is not worth it.
