Running TTF at a site.

I've been running TTF and an open screen at an old school site, no matter what size coil I use, I'm still getting a high tone mixed with low tones from the iron. I've dug quite a few to make sure nothing else was there and once the iron is gone so is the signal. I'm running auto sens at +3, runs in the low 20's here, deep off, fast on and a slow swing, but man, the iron is sure bleeding over into a high tone. The ground is moderately mineralized and I was thinking maybe that's the problem, but, I'm getting excellent depth with the Minelab 8" coil. Even some of the smaller shallower iron is falsing high as well. This site is loaded iron debris of every kind. Is anyone else having this kind of issue in TTF, am I missing something here?

The Etrac loves discrimination. Be sure you do not run a wide open screen. Watch these and you wont run TTF again.

I dug up a lot of keepers using 'open screen' with 'high manual sens'. And with a little experience it can even aid in separating closeby good targets from junk.
Basically the brain provides the discrimination. It can be maddening at times even in quieter areas and takes some getting used to.

Having said that i only use that setting at sites with minimal iron (and other junk) and where i've recovered 'deep targets' before. Think farm fields, quieter parks.
Dense iron infested areas need at least some discrimination IMO.

Some iron can give off good 2-way high coin tones depending on its size, shape and amount of corrosion... no getting around it.

Gary, have you personally had a lot of success with the settings from those videos? I've been intrigued by them, but have not had a real opportunity to try it yet.

The E-Trac in TTF with a small coil is a killer combo.
Many people including myself have gotten great results in heavy iron by using very small coils like the Sunray X-5 - and the EQ2 6" and 4.5" by 7".
The smaller the coil the better chance you have of isolating a good target in a field of iron and other junk metal - but you do loose depth with a smaller coil.

Yes - I have done this same test with my Etrac. My friend has 2 CTX 3030's and we did the test together. I could put rusty nails on both sides of a coin at 1/4" from the coin and still hear the coin perfectly. The CTX could only hear the nails. My Etrac in TTF with a wide open screen could only hear the nails and never the coin. You will find items not masked in TTF wide open, but you are missing so many targets.

Good luck... Gary from Oregon

Dan......

Please try this simple pattern....(called 'Iron frame)

Using EDIT mode; put a TWO POINTS REJECT frame around the whole screen..

When completed, press the DETECT button.

When prompted by the resultant display,... accept it into the SMART-SCREEN.

Immediately SAVE it...... as a DISC Pattern, for future use.

Press DETECT button to get back into use mode.

Never be afraid to put your 'tadpole' pattern of iron rejection in the 35 Fe quadrant.....

Have faith....trust your detector, and you'll win more than you lose.

Try it and let us know your experiences.....Matt
