Running CZ3D Scared.

Wanting to get one but after reading several different post on different sites Im concerned about it coming in and not being tuned correctly. Then having to pack it up to send it who knows where or how long to get it fixed. I like warrenty but I dont like being without my main MD. Are they getting better or are they still coming that way?

Coming which way? I don't think there has been much quality control issues with later CZ3ds. Will the new ones air test to 40 feet on a dime like the old 1021's? I will tell you that mine won't air test like the experts say it should. I am the original owner and it is under warranty and trust me I will wait until something else happens or the warranty is about to expire before I worry about my air testing score. I love mine, even if it only air test to 9 or 9.5 on the famous air test. I wouldn't be upset if mine did test deeper, but I find a ton of deep stuff, just like it is.
Buy a new one, learn to use it, and months after you fall in love with the machine, do the famous air test. Then you will really be in conflict, if it doesn't air test as deep as you would like, Bottom line, it finds, neat, deep stuff. I sure wouldn't join the "sorry club" who air test the brand new machine and immediately feel cheated. Good luck with your decision. I am going to keep hunting and finding instead of worrying.

I just bought one on your advise! Just kidding but I have ordered one to be in my hands in time for beach trip Friday. My Silver uMax is just too shallow and noisy for some old sites I know should have some older coins if I can get deeper and past GB. I got a price for it new I could not turn down. This guy knows Charlotte very well and has sites for old coins to give me in area. He considers old as 1700 and 1800 coins. I think old is 63' and back. Man the fever is getting worst.

Hey Clad,
If you are going to the beach watch out for splash. One of the guys on the forum covers his speaker when he takes the CZ3 to the beach. I guess most of the danger in splashing or sand blowing can be slowed way down by covering the speaker. Let me know how you get along at the beach. I am heading west this summer and hope to hunt some California beaches. I have picked up a Cz70 pro for the trip, but may take the CZ3 along too. Hope you find the goods.

Don't get too caught up in the air testing. Learn your 3D and you will do fine. If your unit air tests 9+ inches on a clad dime, you are in good shape. I would say if it only gets 6-7 inches, they it may need a tune up.

I have never found a coin in the air, and I bet the 3D will go deeper in the ground than air testing anyway.

Just make sure if you are on a salt water beach, to cover up the detector or at least the speaker holes. Salt air and water play havoc with electronic equipment.

I was warned by the dealer about this. He stated: With the minerals in our red clay 6 to 7 on a dime in grd. and deeper on quarters. Just sharpen up the shovel. All in getting the right GB. Would a enviromental cover help with the sand and spray? I will digg all for a while and plan on staying up a the people line that has to be behind life guard line. Starting on owners manuel right now as well as the article by Dan the Man.

You will love the Cz3d and it is very easy to use...
I just us a gal size Ziploc to cover it and it works pretty good and i use duct tape to cover the speaker...:detecting:
I wish they made a good eviro cover for the Cz3d and coin$trike. (let me know if you find any covers)

if you do NOT air test 10" on a clad dime,.then you ARE being "cheated!"
time for a trip back to el paso!

I never found a coin in the air, I love that. I was never a believer in air tests either. They always work different in the real ground.

Picked it up Sunday and spent all week with it. Have a call in to Fisher and left Tim a msg. already. No matter where or what type of grd your in if its on Sens=4 and up sounds like a pinball machine.Tested from Myrtle beach to Union and Cabarrus and Gaston Counties. The same. On 3 it works but no depth. Cant hit my silver Rosie at 7" even on higher sens setting in test garden. If I turn Sens to 4 it falses to iron tab then lrg coin and needle locks there untill next tone. Couldnt tell if it was a coin or not its so noisy. I have had 2 very experenced guys find the same thing. I just hold it still and I can get falsing. Its not EMI as no other MD is have problems. My 10x12 coil on Silver will get EMI and its working grt. If it is then its going back as I cant use it. Have spent hours reading and doing everything I could. I want this machine and I will give Fisher a chance to do something as I am very unhappy but not surprized. Also in salt mode you can not adjust GB. Cant find any info on that. Let you know.

I am so glad you are all talking about the cz3d. I am sure it is a good detector but I have a older cz70 pro and I was considering going to a cz3d. After reading the posts here and elsewhere I can't justify trading the cz70 pro in for a cz3d. Mine is VERY DEEP and VERY CONSISTANT. I used to be a Whites fan but after learning the cz70 pro I am sold on Fisher. I think the cz3d would be a fine detector but if you have a decent Fisher go with it.

CZ70 is a great machine. I think a properly tuned CZ3D would beat out a CZ70 though for a few reasons. I like the "enhanced" mode of the CZ3D because certain old coins will now register as a high tone. If you are the type to dig everything except the iron low tones, then this isn't really helpful. If, however, you like to cherry pick the high tones, it could be very helpful. Also, I really like that the CZ3D went back to analog control for the sensitivity adjustment. I really don't know why Fisher decided to change this for the CZ7a pro / CZ70, and some people really didn't like the change, and found it too limiting. I also think the analog display works fine, so the digital display wasn't really a huge improvement. Just my opinion.
