Can anyone tell me what the rules are and regulations of metal detecting in and around Pheonix AZ?? We like to do schools, parks and ect and are thinking about relocating into that area. Depends on several things including how metal detector friendly they are :)
Thanks for any help or references to this subject you might h ave

Anymore, the schools around Phoenix and Tucson close the gates and lock and do not allow trespassing, this is due to the large amounts of vandalism. Lots of desert and old mines on public land to explore though.

I started detecting back in the mid 1970s, when schools didn't used to have fences. But d/t the litigical atmosphere (bang your head on a swing set, and you can sue the school, etc...) they started fencing schools back in the 1970s and '80s. However, I have noticed that there is usually still a turn-stile, or wide-spot in the gates kept open. And I don't see any other lack of after school users continue to use school yards (joggers, basketball, etc...). And no one seems to care (signs not withstanding). So I have always continued to detect schools after hours, and no one seems to care. As long as you're not being a nuisance, leaving a mess, etc.... Of course, I'm sure if you were to ask, they'd say "no". But so too would they say that to anyone else as well (those that use the grass, playground, etc... and aren't bothered either).
