Ruff afternoon at the beach...

Being a drizzly day, and getting cabin fever after spending the morning indoors, I decided to head for a freshW beach 5 min away that I have just killed for several years, but was hoping for a fresh drop since I have been in a gold drought all summer. Put a shower cap on the Excel(does Ramada have any idea where these are going)? The finds were few and far between, but I did learn more about the Excel. I was fooled by a rusty bottle cap that was crimp side up, rang like a quarter. I said Holy Mack-rel how did this happen. So I decided to try a couple of techniques to see if I could have bettered my performance.

Top side up the BC reads as iron no problem, but crimp side up at a moderate sweep speed it rings good. Therefore the first technique I tryed was to burn it(increase sweep speed to rapid rate over the target) with crimp side up, worked great, read iron with fast sweep. I believe Monte VB calls this Quickout.

Second technique was a variation of Monte VB's Edge Pass rejection, with the BC on the surface crimp up, I pinpointed and then moved the coil off the target till the BC was no longer even under the coil, it was several inches away from the outer edge of the coil when I released PP. Then swing a moderate speed and shows iron, no doubt. Tryed a zinc and dime using same technique, ID never changed till the very brink of a signal. Two caveats, targets at depth may not allow you to move completely out from under the coil, so Monte's description may apply better under those instances. Lastly, you need to be in a fairly clear area with no other targets around.

I also tried Dr. Tom's -8 disc with my own setting of 8 on sens, so I get to call the setting 88's. The difference I noticed was digging more small pieces of foil, but maybe there's a gold chain waiting.
