After using my RTG scoop in Lews "rock garden", I realized I needed more modifications than just a stainless steel lip.
My toes were killing me after the hunt because the pad on the back of the scoop was at such a poor angle ( for me ) that I couldn't put my foot on it to really apply pressure to get into the rocks. It was also very smooth and my foot wanted to keep slipping off the back. It was suggested that I might glue non- skid material on the back but that wouldn't have helped tha angle. Also, after using my Stavr scoop with a grab handle on it I'm spoiled....I really like it, ( the grab handle ).
So, my pal CJ has a piece of aluminum pipe the right diameter that he was kind enough to let me have and I had some diamond plate for the kicker.
I removed the old kicker and made a new on at the angle I wanted. I then cut the piece of pipe to the length I wanted and coped it to fit the existing handle. If you notice, I had already drill more ( 1/2" ) holes all the way to the S/S lip for better drainage.
The only other thing I'm going to do is add some 1/4"-3/8" hardware cloth to the inside toward the back.
With these mods the scoop feels great and should be what the doctor ordered.
