RTG 6” sand and water scoop with bb6 tip. Need advice!!

Aloha from Kauai! Anyone out there using the RTG 6” scoop with bb6 tip? Thinking about picking one up!! What do you think?

I've got the RTGBBtv6 ... the travel version of the 6 inch aluminum scoop. It has served me well as a rugged scoop that I can pack in a suitcase and fly with. I only use it a couple weeks a year when I fly somewhere. Over about 8 years of a couple weeks a year of use, the tip is starting to wear a little. The version you are looking at, with the stainless tip added, should hold up better. The one thing I don't like about the scoop design is that the 5/8 inch holes let some of the pop tabs from aluminum cans slip through the holes. If the holes were just a little smaller I'd be even happier with the scoop.

My main scoop now, when I'm not flying, is a stealth 720 with carbon fiber handle. I have not picked up a travel handle for it yet.

For the price, the RTG scoop works very well.

Thank you so much! I think I’m going to end up picking one up! Thank you again for taking the time and getting back to me !! Danny

Two things I did to my RTG scoop that makes it work better for me:

1) Sprayed the handle with truck bed liner spray. Gets better grip on the handle and keeps the hands from getting grey from grabbing the oxidization on the aluminum handle.
2) Found a discarded body board on the beach (or in the trash cans near the beach). Took the leash off it and use it as a leash for the scoop. Helps keep me from having the scoop wash out to sea when a rogue wave hits.

Hummm interesting! I didn’t think about that, yes the aluminum would definitely turn your hand grey black! Just curious what detector do use on the beach and in the water? I just got the Garrett AT Max. I Took it out on the beach but just worked the dry sand, I was happy with it, it work quite well, but I haven’t taken it in the water yet. I do know I’m probably gonna have to bring the sensitivity down to keep it from chattering, at least that’s what I’ve been reading! Anyway thanks again for your help and I’ll definitely look into spraying that handle with some Bed liner!

My detectors for beach detecting:
In the water and on the beach: CZ20 with 8 inch coil, Excalibur with 10 inch coil, DetectorPro Head Hunter Pulse with 11 inch coil, Tesoro Sand Shark with both 8 inch and 10.5 inch coils, Detector Pro Underwater 12 inch coil.
Dry and wet sand but not in the water: CZ6A with FZ-12 coil.

When I am not real close to home, I take two detectors just in case one has a problem.
