having used most of the modern detectors I purchased this detector from a friend who had one for sale and said a great detector for notching out rubbish ,I tried this out as well as no notch ,this is the haul of coins and bits found in two 4 hour sessions on a grass car park,in the UK about 80 dollars worth ,soon will have paid for it, the notch gets rid of foil silver paper small penny coins and leaves the better stuuf to dig ,seems a 20 year old detector for this type of coin shooting is better than the costly detectors of today .

That's a pretty good haul, JM! $80 would be exceptional here, in current coins.

And it seems yours are larger than ours, too... Must have been taller grass, or ????

Why is it that cars park in that spot?

hi they sell items there, we call it a carboot, mostly on a Sunday mornings people come and sell there wares ,the grass is very short, thanks for your reply

That was indeed a good hunt. Over here when you find that many coins you have about $5.00 worth.
Some of the older detectors were left behind not due to their limited capability but because people always seem to think newer is better. Not the case in many instances. Depth plays a big part in the purchase I believe. If you convince the buyer that the latest offering has more depth you most probably will sell the unit. As some have discovered, depth is not always the solution to increase one's finds. But we, as a group, tend to equate success with depth. And many are still looking for that "perfect" detector which still doesn't exist.

I also have the Royal Sabre. I got mine for $75 from a friend who needed the money and the detector also had a faulty coil. You can flip off the notch to just disc only, rotate the disc level all the way to the left(least disc), then rotate the notch level to a point where nickels give a lo tone, tabs (most of them) a mixed tone, and coins a hi tone (zinc and above). I was glad he didn't have a manual to the detector, as I found this out by experimenting before I finally downloaded a manual from a friend. It's an awesome detector and there's no way I would let go of mine.

P. S. I forgot to mention that on the notch level knob, the setting has my knob pointer aimed square at the "c" in "nickles".

OK, JM... I got it now!

A carboot at the carpark,,,, Grassy field where folks drive in, maybe park in a line and open their auto trunks to sell goods.

Here in California, we do similar at drive-in movie theatres... all asphalt for cars, no grass.
Now, most set up tables, shade covers, and have become regular stores.

Hi mptr, you got it correct ,usually attended by 3-600 people ,best places are by the food stalls and ice cream van ,we have several larger car boots with up to 2000 people arriving o n a weekend morning ,,I notch the larger coins in and the cent size out ,easiest way is to locate target ,use a pin pointer over coin ,and slide out, using a wide bladed knife, makes no mess ,the royal sabre fits in great for this type of hunting .

Hi JM,

Are pull tabs and foil candy wrappings a problem for you, as they are here?

It's over 100 degrees F here in parts of CA, now. The beer drinkers are coming out in force!
