Royal, is there a Higgins Lake or Houghton Lake near Roscommon?

Evidently they are old lakes? Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I intend to hammer the old swimming areas.
The fishing for small mouth bass is very good. I have been swimming in 25 ft of water and seen huge bass investigating the anchor. I threw on a mask and swam down the anchor line and they just backed off and watched me. I did not have any tanks so could not stay long.
There were 6 bass in that school and I just know they were in the five pound range. Smallmouth sorta school to size.
In over 25 years of diving I have seen many thousands of fish down there and I understand the magnification but those are huge fish.
That is in Higgins Lake. One of the most beautiful lakes in Michigan and clearest.
On a nice day I enjoy running the dropoffs and watching the fish. Like I said the bottom is normally easily visible at 25 ft and we see some huge fish.
I just have not had to time to fish the lakes yet. Things go right, that will change

I would think that it would be a very difficult lake to fish. You would have to use light weight line and small lures.
Years ago, I fished in a lake with clear water like Higgins Lake and got pretty frustrated because the fish would not eat the bait. They would swim up to the bait, look at it, then swim off a foot or so and just watch the bait. I would move the bait over to them, but they still would not bite. I finally dropped a bunch of worms over the side of the boat, and it pissed me off when they ate those worms, but still ignored my baited hook. Please have a great day!
