A few weeks back you mentioned about checking your Visa or M/C bill for untoward charges.. I checked my bill yesterday and found four charges to Microsoft xbox live on two successive days. Since I do not own any video games, these obviously are not mine..

Luckily I took your advice and started checking the bills .... and will now do that all the time.

Just as an adjunct.. I checked some of my previous bills... no extra charges.. But I did look at last months bill.... Only one place new on there.. I made a trip to Salmon Arm and used the card to get some horse feed in a rather scuzzy little store. This is the only new place that I have used the card. It is the only place that could/would have skimmed the card.

Notified the company.. they took care of it.

Be vigilant out there.

that has surfaced as of late. The new cards, I don't know how long this has been possible, have a chip embedded in them that gives all your information. The bad guys have a reader that makes it possible to walk behind you and scan this chip while it is in your wallet and in your pocket. Also it could scan Alice's in her purse without touching you or the purse.

There are little holders for your credit card and also passports that will block these detectors. I have my credit cards in them.

One thing that the bad guys do, especially in restaurants, is when the server takes your credit card to pay your bill, many places do this as you set at the table, they scan it in a little scanner in their pocket on the way to the cash register. This scanner in their pocket is not the one for the restaurant but it is for the bad guy.

We gotta watch these suckers

that used your card for video games. Small businesses have a problem with hiring kids that are honest and we have seen a lot of that around here with service stations and convenience stores. I never let an employee in a small place swipe my card, i check that the card reader looks legit and do it myself, always keeping the receipt. If they don't let me check and swipe i walk away.
