I thought some may be interested in what rough rock looks like before and after being set in a piece of jewelry.
First are opals from Australia. My wife bought this ear ring.

Next is Picture Rock Jasper from Arizona, polished by Nancy and made into a pin.

Next is Tigereye - I dug the bracelet one time and , hard to believe, found a matching set of ear rings the next week about 5 miles away.

This is good old Turquoise , very easy to work with. I dug the ring & necklace but cut the name out of a dug silver spoon.

This is Appatite or green Turquoise - they look similar sometimes - dugthe ring, pretty rough yet.

Lastly, here's a ring I made with some Rhodochrosite from the Silverton, Colo area. It's only been found in 2 places in the world the last I read - Colo and I think the Middle East -
