rookie needs help with Prizm II purchase

I found a 6 month old Prizm II for $100 that I'm thinking about for my first detector. Is a II any good? Will it find coins, jewelry, gold nuggets =) From what I have read in here, accuracy is better than depth. I know its not an expensive unit to begin with, but will I be satisfied with its performance?

Thanks,
Bones

I use a Prizm IV. Just has more bells and whistles than a Prizm II. They give the same great performance. I've had some great luck with mine finding coins and jewelry. You should be able to find coin-sized targets a good 6" to 9" depending on the size of the coin.

:detecting::super::detecting:

I use the Prizm 2 and it is a very good unit.
I use it in the parks it will pick up coin up 7" or that is the deepest i dug a coin with it.

have you found anything other than coins? jewelry of any kind?

is the coil upgradeable? if so, how much for the upgrade and what does it do that stock doesnt?

thanks for the replies

All the Prizms have the same power.
I donot need all the bells etc, that is why I use the Priam2.
I use the XL PRO and M6 for other types of hunting.
I like the Prizm because it is small and quick to use.

a good detector, easy to use, light weight good depth. With 8"coil I found a wheat at 9" after a rain,I,m sure you will be very happy with it.

I suppose I'm going to get it. For $85, I dont believe I can go wrong. I was hoping to get a better one to begin with and I did find a Garrett CX plus, but he want's $450 for it and I just dont want to spend that for a 1st detector. We'll see how the Prizm works out. Will post with first find =)

Thanks all

Good Value, Good Detector...

The Prizms just came out in 2004/December. Whether its the Prizm II or the Prizm V, they share the same engine unlike the Garrett Ace Series, where the 250 has more HP than the 150.

The Prizm II just lacks some of the Tone ID, Notch, VCO Pinpointing and on the Fly Depth Reading, just like the older technology Classics it replaced.

The Prizm II like the rest of the Prizm Line, is very light weight, and has an easy to read display. The Prizm Line Up also features LOUD Alert, that is, any signal the processor determines is a good signal, you'll hear it at MAX volume, whether its shallow or deep. Modulated Circuits which exhibit softer Deep Target Response can lull a person to ignore that small whisper.

Even though the Prizm II is lacking the On-The-Fly Coin Depth, you can easily estimate the depth and size of the target by using the excellent All Metal Pin Point Mode / 8" Concentric Coil Configuration.

The Prizm's 8.2 kHz +/- lends itself to small gold jewelry sensitivity lost on some of the competitor detectors costing 7Xs as much, and in your case, 14Xs.

If you want to Expand your Depth, Open up ALL the Segments, and anything that reads in the Zone One, Iron OVER 6" should be investigated further BY your All Metal Pin Point Mode, as it could be a deep silver coin.
