Very cool. I always dreamed about the possibilities if I lived over there to hunt. Just think, you never know when the next big target you dig might be a cache of ancient gold or something. We've got cache stuff over here in the states. A lot of people buried their money during the depression, including gold coins when they outlawed that, but just the same you know what I mean.

Oh to find an old relic like that. Living in the USA, I only dream of it. Great piece of history! Great find! Thanks for sharing!

You give me palpitations. Not much hope of something like that here in Tasmania. Only 200 odd years of white settlement and the original aborigines did not have metals. Their stone artifacts are fully protected under the law and must not be even touched on the ground by white people.

Going to do a bit of detecting this weekend up on Tasmania's North West Coast, beach & inland if weather permits. Still looking for first Rolex. Found a gold bangle under an old oak tree about 10 years ago with a home built induction balance machine. Still have it (the IB detector) and love the old thing, No discrimination or any frills, Just all metal. Though it is amazing how one gets to know a machine, I could often predict what was in the ground before digging.
Have been spoiled by using the Sov for the last couple of years. The home builts don't see much use any more.
