You mean they didn't put that picture of the Mason jar lid that lady found at that picnic area at a lake? After that big long story about it, I thought for sure it would be right in the center of the cover. Congratulations guys! I'm looking forward to getting my copy.

& is gonna be the be Colchester's Find of the year, easy.....
(even if "Ringmaster" was using a Toysoro)
I hear he just got a Fisher 1236x though

look at the difference with the US gold coin next to it.....it's Soooooo yellow!

Bill,
I have used a lot of machines since I had a 1236 and that little bugger is still a top pick in my book for pulling small low conductors out of iron! I know it doesn't make any sense if you apply conventional wisdom about frequencies are supposed to work best for senstivity on that type of target. I saw a thread once by Jack Gifford (Tesoro) and he admitted that frequency is not everything.
The 1236X2 deserves a serious look for certain applications. It is one of the best iron trash detectors available. Not depth monsters mind you but, they have a "just right" combination of sensitivity combined with a great disc circuit. Very few machines handle iron as well as the 1236 at the low disc settings neccessary to hunt it effectively.

Unfortunately after getting an ID-Excel & a CZ-7a, my 1270 was just collecting dust since I use the C$ 90% of the time. So, I sold it to a guy in the UK. Now, sometimes I wish I still had an X-series unit around like a 1236x or something. I just picked up one of those rare, no longer made, 3.75" FRL "Super Sniper" coils for trash, & have nothing to try it on now I saw a 1236x on classifieds for $150 recently & should have grabbed it! Maybe "The RingMaster" will sell me the one he took in trade cheap since he doesn't seem to be ready to convert to the "Fisher Family" yet Maybe I should let him try out my Excel?

That ring is the find of a lifetime IMO. I wonder if Bill will be able to keep the ring or will it be declared treasure trove and be seized by the government? I recently read an article where a detectorist hunting in England found a gold Roman ring and the ring was immediately declared treasure trove and seized by the archieoligist. I think the only saving grace is that the museum has to pay the fair market value for the ring. If I am wrong please disregard my comments, some of you guys that have hunted in England can surely enlighten us ref. the treasure trove regulations. HH

I believe he has that same coil coming and is planning on using it with a 1236. Would be neat to see a comparison between it and the ID Excel with a small coil (when they come out that is).
Sure wish spring would get here!
Tom

I'm still learning the process too, & I just had 2 items "disclaimed" meaning no museums were interested in purchacing them But, to some that may be a good thing as they are coming home to the US. I believe there's a section on the Colchester web page that explains the treasure act alot better than I can. I think that ring is very valuable, and will never leave the country. It really deserves to be in a UK. museam, & I think Bill would like a museum to have it as long as he gets fair value.....HH, Bill

He's also getting the rare 10" eliptical coil as well, & I'm interested in trying that for the fields as well. I had been looking for these coils for years & nobody was sellin' 'em when I had my 1266/1270. Now I don't have an X-unit, & these coils are popping up everywhere Wierd....

It was a life time find for me,its a great feeling to be the first person to hold that ring in 1600yrs since that person lost it.The ring was about a size 12 i wish i put a scale of some sort next to it.An yes i just picked up a 1235 to play with it.Thank you again Bill Henderson www.buyametaldetector.com

Now you just need to get that CZ-7a & then you will be "one of us"
