We're finally going to take our maiden trip in our new 27 foot fiver next weekend. Going to Riceville Iowa. A little town in north central Iowa, made famous years ago by a school teacher who did the brown eyes blue eyes experiment. Some of you older guys may recall how she told the blue eyed kids they were superior to the brown eyed kids, then after a day or so, switched it around.
It created quite a stir back then, even made 60 Minutes as I recall. Anyway, The wife and I are heading up to the park there on saturday for our first trip with the new camper. should be enlightening and amusing.
Yes, theres a beach there, don't know if it will produce, but I'll give it a try.
May even get a fishing license, that would be my first one in 35 years!!
The guy in the pictures is the salesman who sold us the rig in the back ground. The lady in the picture is my wife who had just learned I was out there buying that monster, she looks a bit overwhelmed, ya think??

to a beach near you.

The former owner said I should get 8-10 MPG, pulling or just driving.

Get about 14 - 15 empty and ...
Let me explain.
I have an older (1986) 5th wheel, 27 ft and I only got 8 - 9 mpg pulling it. I had always been told that a diesel would not drop much pulling a load. I was disappointed.
I finally figured that my old camper was more squared off in the front than the more modern ones so I bought an air foil wind deflector for the top of the truck cab. The camper is also almost 11' high. The manufacturer guaranteed 10% improvement.
Well, my mileage jumped up to a little over 12 mpg. A whopping 30+% increase! That is like getting a $.60 discount on each $2.00 gallon of fuel. Even better with the current high prices.
I can furnish more info via private email if you are interested. This is getting off the topic of this forum.
