Rockport Texas ... one gold ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
The water was low today at Rockport Beach so we hunted the area with a Excalibur II and a CZ-20 both with the 8" coils.
Could not find a target with the Excalibur that the CZ-20 could not also detect.
Did find some deep pennies.
One gold ring.

I have found I get better results with the 8 inch coil on my CZ's than the bigger ones. Maybe its due to luck, but I just find more with the 8 inch coil than the 10.5 or the FZ-12 ( won't sell it though...it's a great coil for certain conditions).

Not saying the bigger coils aren't good. Heck, there have been times I was glad I had the big coils on due to sanded in conditions. I think for me, I can control the 8 inch coil better and probably have the coil close and parallel to the ground at the end of sweeps much better than the bigger ones. That can be because I have my CZ's mounted on straight shafts with the lower rod further out, and the 8 inch coil has the connector at one end where as the other coils have them in the middle. I can scrub the sand with the 8 inch coil much easier with my arm extended.

Just guessing !

Nice Gold Willee! Looks like a great place to hunt also..............

Hey Willee, nice post, I'm going to be buying a new water machine.I've got it narrowed down to the excal or the cz21.What are some of the performance differences between the two machines? I live in new england and encounter a lot of hot rocks on our beaches, which drive my BHID 300 crazy.Which machine do you think I would be better off with? Thanks,Al PS. all input will be appreciated.

This is just my opinion ...

I would choose the Excalibur II over the CZ-20 for two reasons ...

1. The Excalibur runs with a threshold tone and I like hearing the detector at work.

2. The Excalibur II is more stable under most conditions and needs no ground balance.

Depth is NOT an issue and both detectors do work well in salt water.

We were comparing the two detectors trying to see if we could find a target with the Excalibur that the CZ-20 could not detect.
We dug some deep targets but everything the Excalibur found the CZ-20 could detect also ... so that ended as a toss up.

The ring was detected by my buddy Cliff with the Excalibur II.
I came over and the CZ-20 gave a nice sharp mid tone signal.
He said "dig it up" ... so I did.
It was down about 6" to 8" in the sand ... water was about 10" deep.

I said "it is yours cause you actually found it".
He said "no its yours cause you dug it up".
I disagreed once more and handed him the ring.
He looked at it and quickly agreed with me.

We both smiled and continued hunting.
