Rockiest lake ever ......(need advice)

Hi all,

I've been out with a eye infection for about 2 weeks and am getting back in the water very soon. I tried the lake the other day which is the most used lake around here. (alot of tourists n campers)I hit a gold sounding target and dug about 2 inches and half of my scoop was filled with rocks. Also i have a cheap galvanized scoop for now (have a s/s one on order) and the front part of my scoop was bent to pieces lmao.......This is a state park beach and i assume it's filled with sand every year. but also this beach has probably 10 times the people the other local private beaches do.

My question is, being that the sand has so many rocks in it, targets such as rings wouldn't sink down very far would they? I'm thining recent drops from this year will not be very deep at all......is this true.

You'll need a pretty rugged scoop to do the job, but you should have fairly shallow recent drops.

Good luck - with as many people as you say use it, there HAS to be stuff there!

...and haul some rock. Dont ever bank on "the goodies have to be there"... that is for dreamers. I wish I had a dollar for every time some has said that and gotten stumped.

I have a lake beach near here that sounds just like yours, same conditions, same crowds, etc. I have yet to find doodly there, although I go there frequently, since you never know.

Do the same. Go there often, spend a season searching and getting to know that beach. Find out what is there - then you will know.

was probably aimed at my comment to dfxmatt. Don't want to derail his thread, but I find much more hunting when I have a positive attitude and an optimistic outlook.

Good luck dfkmatt - get out there and scoop scoop scoop!

My sentiments exactly. I never implied that you have anything but a positive attitude. On the contrary, confidence comes from being prepared and knowing what you are about - that in turn breeds a positive attitude.

When I go, I know the conditions are right, my equipment is right and the timing is right. Beyond that, we will see what we see.
