Rock Tumbler

homebre

Member
I have a harbor freight rock tumbler and was wondering if anyone has ever used 8 mm steel slingshot balls in place of rocks to clean finds, jewelry, or coins?

Thx,
Andy from Hillsborough

I have never used them, seems to defeat the purpose of using a cutting medium to clean the coins. Aquarium gravel and sand are quartz, good cutting agents as well as silicon carbide used for tumbling rocks, but try them and see what happens. I wouldn't put jewelry in a tumbler though.
