Last night I did do a search back to about when you were first on these forums and you did include you name and the Tesoro address link at the bottom, but that has been omitted more recently. I am sure many regular readers wanted to know, too. Now, and in future posts since you represent Tesoro.
I brought your now buried reply up from below:
I wore those same hats when I worked for Compass Electronics back in '87, '88 and '89.
With some models, like the Tiger Shark, the user is instructed to trim up certain adjustments. With so many models employing a preset Ground Balance, you just have to know that quite often these detectors are not going to work properly when changing to a different area. This is especially true when, by design, the external manually GB'ed models are still way too 'touchy' in their setting. l;et's not forget, too, that detectors are bought and sold at a very high rate. The new owner of a used Tesoro doesn't have a clue of it has ever been tweaked a little, or even a lot.
I have acquired an assortment of used Tesoro's through the years, but I prefer a manual GB'ed model. Sometimes when I latched onto a factory preset design I note that the GB adjustment is way off and a trimmer requires slight adjustment. Also, the nature of their design can present a problem because I have often noticed a pronounced change in the Ground balance simply by changing search coils. If you plan to use 2 or 3 different coils with one model, it is best to make certain the GB trimmer adjustment is set to properly handle all of the coils over the worst ground in the area.

It is good to see someone bear their name and come out in support of the Tesoro line-up. That hasn't been the norm for a long time. Ever, really.allcav said:Ok first of all, my name is Robert Martensen. That information is free to you and if you call here for tech support, you will get me. I wear many hats here at Tesoro. I am the Marketing Director, customer liaison, Dealer rep and tech support.

The problem is that you can't tell, usually, how much a trimmer has been adjusted. Certainly not if only once or twice.allcav said:If you open your unit up 1 time and make adjustments to better fit your ground, chances are it will not void the warranty. However continuously opening up the unit to make adjustments can cause wires to brake.

That's fair.allcav said:I am first and foremost here to help out the Tesoro users to the best of my ability, and it isn't my attention to upset anybody.
So if you have any more questions, call, email or even PM.
It shouldn't be a gray area. If the maker of a product does not want (allow) a consumer to mess with the design settings, then all they need to do it state it, very matter-of-factly, and then they can decide to void all warranty coverage. Not a maybe or a once or twice decision, but a bold, blanket statement that certain adjustments ARE a violation of the warranty and will immediately void and free service and support.allcav said:I didn't know that quoting the warranty would upset anybody and hope that Iclarified a little bit up. The subject of the warranty is a gray area when it comes to tinkering around on the inside of the units.
