ROBBED at the river...Someone stole my backpack while I was wading

And of course it had my wallet,ID keys etc...

And if you see a cheap deal on a 5.75 Tesoro 5 pin coil on Craigs that would be mine likely. Also got a pinpointer, set of headphones & 2 yummy sandwiches.

Wife came by with a spare set of keys so I could drive home. I had a steering lock on but had tools to cut it off.Just finished replacing the front door lock-the rest have internal dead bolts.

But let the lesson be-Don't trust leaving your backpack on the beach. Esp[ecially by the Sandy River in Troutdale Oregon. Has a large homeless population I'm told..

Made a police report.Hopefully they find the stuff but its a longshot...

Well that sucks. I always lock my extra stuff in the rig. I know that won't completely stop someone if they really want something but it stops most of them. Good luck finding your stuff. You should check the local pawn shops and let them know to be on the look out for it.

Had a group of young hispanics surround me while water hunting once...... I was in chest deep water when they drove up and I didn't notice them until they had gotten in the water close to me.
They were speaking spanish and started to surround me. Still not completely around me.... I moved away and shallower towards the beach and was able to get out without any problems. I did however have a very good hispanic friend tell me that any young hispanic males together like that in our part of the country should be working and if they were'nt, they could possibly be up to no good and it was probably lucky I was able to get out without incident. Thinking back those guys could have surrounded me and drowned me and nobody would have ever known it until I was later found. Be careful out there.... you never know what kind of people are lurking out there & up to no good.

"good luck!"..still got the"gold"fillings in your head?
rough times we find ourselves in these days!..maybe ya get lucky!

if you live anywhere near the "border",you should be huntin' with a "buddy!"
you might consider it!

And hook it to your belt. I always use one when on the beach, especially when hunting with my swim suit on since it does not have any pockets. I keep my keys, ID and money in it. It's orange, floats and easy to see if it comes off.

Got one at one of the outdoor stores in my area. You can also get one of the cell phone or camera bags for about 12 bucks.

Yeah this day and age you can't leave stuff like that laying around.Hell my wife and kid have had their water bottles stolen more than once at public library. Its like your going to steal a water bottle!YUCK.Now they have your ID and create a world of hurt with IDENTY THEFT. Plus all the trouble now to replace all that stuff.GOOD LUCK!

I once had a bunch of kids throw rocks at me while I was metal detecting. I left before they got too close. Besides hitting me, I was afraid they would break the windows in my car. When I go water hunting I only take the minimum stuff with me, and put it in zip lock bags in my pockets. They leaked on me last time, but not on my electronic car key, so I was OK. Have to get a real water proof bag. Sorry some scum got your stuff.

Long day...I already changed the entire set of house locks. Called in to Equifax & put my credit on hold. 1st thing after it happened my wife called the bank so I was safe there...
But yeah having creeps know my adress & have a full set of keys...Yuck.

I also had to remove my locking gas cap on my VW van-an origional & HTF. Didn't have a spare key for that as I found it at a swap meet.I also had to replace my steering lock.

Then there are the vintage VW keys to be re-done & thats gonna be a pain just finding a competent smith to do the job. I never did have a full matching set so maybe now I will.

But please folks don't let your guard down. I really need one of those pouches mentioned above.
Thanks for the sympathy & take heed...

Carl.

keep a "coach" piece by the front door!....it's your property!..you have the legal right to defend yourself.
and your family!..it can be scary!..some people are desperate!..get the police involved too,and above all else,DON'T
beat yourself up over it!..you made an honest mistake!..you are a human man!..best of luck to you!

Main thing is you learned a valuable lesson about the people in this day & age and how desparate they can be. I'm just glad your life is intact and you can hunt another day. I've been considering trading off my headphones for the single phone type to keep one ear open for trouble slipping up on me. I also have a Carry liscense and keep a 38 special on my person while detecting. Can't be too careful nowadays, and these threads just compound and verify that fact.
Be safe my friends and Happy hunting!

While hunting a N.J. shore approached by two crackheads( wanted watch, wallet, detector and gold ring to let me go) ex Pa. Statepoliceman but not licensed to carry in N.J.....luckily was armed with a long handled floral shovel that was sharpened by the sand and afraid of bodily injury they ran off. Sort of reminded me of one of those weapons from King Arthurs days and may have decapitated at least one of them..

As we would have said in my younger days, "Right-On Brother".

Thats what I like about some of the high quality digging tools available today. When sharpened they make a formidable weapon for self defense in these situations.

Sorry to hear that. I always wonder myself, even if you see someone take it and your in chest or neck deep water, they can get a good head start on you before you can get out of the water. It's just a shame now a days, they can blame the economy all they want, but in my opinion it's more the type of people out there now. So many want something for nothing and you can even see that in the work place. Gimmy gimmy gimmy, people have gotten to lazy to work. I hope you get things straightened out the best you can. :beers:

dan you was indeed fortunate!..if they get the drop on you with "weapons"
drawn, then intent is obvious, and all bets are off!..apparently was unarmed, and all was "bluster"

yes!..this attitude is evident everywhere!..i believe that most people are up against it,if you will, and sincerely think that they are
going backwards, and cannot,no matter what they do,CATCH UP!..this negative thought pattern is influencing their behavior in society
with "scary" results!..i always carry a "club" in my car,and am vigilant everywhere i go!

In the old days, I remember my grandpa saying that a 1/4" chain 2' longwith tape wrapped around one end as a handle...... got him out of some tight situations a few times. Today it's much different.... as most everyone carries a gun. My grandpa carried a gun too but he always said a rap across the head with the chain always ended the confrontations he happened to find himself in. My Grandpa was a man of many colors in that he ran moonshine, worked as a deputy sherrif & was also an oil rig rough neck worker. He worked these different occupations at different times in his life to feed his large family, and had to do whatever he had to, to survive..... it's sad but we are getting back into that type of economy again where we may have to work in different situations where we find ourselves in these situations that my grandpa used to speak of.
Be safe out there!![ /b]
