Road trip to France shopping, Hooters in Germany and a quick hunt today...

It was a beautiful awesome day here in Germany, sunny and in the low 50sF/11C. A work colleague and I did a road trip to France for some quick shopping and a little culture, had fun there but the shopping center was a mad house full of people. Walked into the store and the whole place wreaked of a fishy smell, I soon found the fresh open fish market within the store and it was an awesome site, some great looking seafood but I could not buy anything as we did not have a cooler, the prices were not exorbitant but this is Europe. Just down the road about 8 miles from my apartment we saw these strange formations along a wood line so we stopped to check it out, they are near a Celtic Fortress. My friend and I both knew they are tank stoppers or Dragon

Hey Ron, Jrazquin was bragging about you being a great hunting buddy on another forum, I would agree and wish I had such a good partner to detect with. Nice sundial/compass he found. HH, Mike

Julio is a great guy, avid historian and the best hunting partner. We work together researching sites and have a real passion for the history of our little towns. He has made some very good finds over the 2 years that we have detected together. It'a always fun to share that excitement in the field but I go out alone now and then. Ron

Sounds like you had a good day Mike. The WW2 history was quite interesting. We used to have a large RAAF storage facility in our town that was used till recently. Just before it closed, they opened it up to the public to look around. There were quite a number of older aircraft that were still in crates, including a few F86 Sabers as well a a WW2 German V2 rocket. It was still in one piece! and in plane view.
something that is not well known about our town, is that we have a huge bunker system under it from WW2 (around 70kms of tunnels). It was to have been the Command headquarters for the country, had Australia been invaded by Japan. There is only one opening to it that I've seen, but I have been by others of a number of other openings. The local council doesn't want the community at large to know about it, so they have covered most of the openings up and buried them under tonnes of dirt. it's a shame really, as if they were thinking, it could be a good tourist attraction.
Mick Evans.
