Haven't been out last few weeks as temps are 95-100 lately and it was killing me. Had the urge for a road trip and the weather on the east side of continentel divide was 10 degrees cooler and a lot of that part of Montana I haven't seen so I headed out on a 4 day trip and hit a bunch of podunk farm towns over there and had a real nice time and good hunt. I'm guessing total hunt time was approx. 12-14 hrs. (?). All finds came from either Parks or schoolyards, all were deeper (6-9") except the Ken (4"). Dug another one of those Presidential campaign tokes from 1935 of the guy from Montana that ran for Pres. I was cherry picking and only dug one zinc, the rest all coppers and of course some gas money clad. Had a good time and think I did well for the little time actually hunting as most the trip was spent driving. Some places I only spent maybe 15-20min as it didn't take too long to figure out that unmaintained schoolyards were hard as a rock and I could barely dig 3-4" and gave up on digging any further. So after a couple of these I only could hit maintained/watered grass. I KNOW that a couple of these schools will be a good hunt (with an Etrac...lol) when the grass gets some moisture and maybe someday I will return.....??? The Mercs hid from me on this trip but I was fortunate to keep the Barbie streak going with this crusty one.......
