RIver hunting settings?

I tried hunting in a river in the midwest that had a sand bottom, and ripples in the sand. The water was moving fairly swiftly but wasn't over knee deep. The only way I could get the ATP to settle down was to take the sensitivity to 1 notch. I was getting no depth at all in the water. In the wet sand I could jump up more, and have hunted a few streams, but this river kicked my butt. Any idea why? Was it the fast moving water? Ripples in the sand? This area gets a lot of use, and I know there are things out there to find, but I need some depth. Thanks.

Fast flowing water will cause chaos for sure so its a problem. Did you ground balance (manually) your ATP? It will help considerably. I know its knee deep water and its hard to do but if you can fully submerge your machine and yourself this will help too. Sounds awkward but it works for me. Snorkeling is fun but hard to do in flowing rivers but with the right tools it can be done, this will stop the machine from going haywire. Hope this helps.

I had to tape the coil wire pretty tight so it doesnt false because the wire is moving in the water. still, I get falses hunting over the ripples if the sens is too high. One notch is pretty weak though, I usually can run a few clicks from full power, so its gotta be the minerals in the sand or maybe your wire?
