River and Carnival Grounds today

Today I made a trip to the river with my excal 1000 and found 8 silver dimes, 2 buffalo nickels, wheat pennies and sinkers. The finds came from an old gambling pier..............The tide came in fast so I went to a carnival ground and used my SE PRO with the 4.5x7 coil, there I found 2 mercs 29s & 17, 1 rosie, 1 P nickel "silver", buffalo and Jefferson nickels and wheat pennies.......the dimes from the river are black and will need cleaning........It was fun!

That's an awesome haul of nickels. Are you able to tell their sound, or are you just recovering the pull tabs too, or ?

DF..............Most of the time I can distinguish the sound of the nickels when I switch to pinpoint on the SE and the numbers that appear.
On the Excal 1000 Nickels sound very much like Gold....smooth low tone.. I've learned some of the techniques by reading articles from other treasure hunters and from my own experience over the years. I do find pull tabs as well, some times the sounds and numbers are close, so when I'm unsure I DIG..... John

What river do you hunt on john?I presume it is a beachy area.I live on the ohio river and the mouth of the licking river intersects with it but there has to be tons of trash here.I may try it though as your post was an inspiration for me and my 6x8 sef coil on the etrac.Congrats and hope to see more pics once coins are cleaned.

Hello G-K...........I prefer not to give a location at this time. A friend of mine owns about 500 acres on one of the main rivers in Virginia, it's great to have unrestricted access to his property and water..There is a lot to be found on beaches etc...and with the E-trac you should do well......Look forward to seeing what you find.........John
