Rings but no nickels????

MR.SCOTT

New member

Hi all I'm on my 3rd week using my 1350.
I'm getting a pretty good fill for it .I found my third ring tonight.
I'm getting lots of clad and a little silver,But I can't seem to find any nickels
in the coin mode it has a hard time locking in on my test bed nickel.
Anyone got this trouble?
Also I can't get picture to load or I would have show and tell.
Happy hunting Scott

Have you downsized the picture? Most originals are in a format that's too large to send. Right click on pictures and select "properties" to see the size of your pic.

I find the 1350 kinda weak on nickles too in the Coin mode. It will find them, just doesn't hit them real hard. If you're swinging very fast with it, you can easily miss them. I find it's the same thing with gold rings that hit in that range too. I almost passed on one just because the signal was kinda weak and scratchy, glad I decided to dig, 14k Avery Mens wedding band!!

Aside from the Profiling on the 1350 they are identical machines. Have you tried "twitching" over a nickel to see if it boosts the signal?

Bill.

Been using my 1350 for 3 years. I too find very few nickels. I hunted a site once that had a bunch of nickels and I found quite a few. I did notice that the nickel had to be perfectly flat before It would think the nickel was a nickel. If it wasn't it would show up to the left or right of nickel and I wouldn't dig it. Most of the time it showed a solid nickel and it ended up being canslaw about the size of a nickel. So with my machine I am going to have to dig a lot (and I mean a lot) of trash to get a few nickels. There are times when I feel like doing that but mostly I walk on. Now if I am in a area that has buffs I will dig every bit of trash there. Most of the areas I hunt have so much canslaw that I try to avoid digging questionable targets if possible. That is why I don't find many rings I am sure. The machine really shines on dimes though. I can find a dime laying in any direction. If my machine says it's a dime, it is and it is exactly the depth is tells me. The same thing holds true with quarters except sometimes a flattened soda can shows as a quarter but profiles so large I know it is a can. My biggest advancement with the 1350 came when I bought a pair of GreyGhost headphones. I can hear a small blip that I will not hear with my standard phones or the detector speaker. I think it is a combination of the quality of the speakers in the phones as well as they block out "all" outside noises. I tell people when they buy their first machine to go ahead and spend another $70 to get top-notch headphones. They might grow out of their first detector, but they will keep the phones as they move up.

If it locks on notch above or below nickle I dig it. my pile of nickles is way smaller than my penny, dime or quarter pile. I'm not complaining just seems they aren't real hot on nickles.

I went to my test bed an added dis.notch 4.5 to my coin mode that made it lock in.
So I made that my custom I will use this this weekend.
Good luck to all.:garrett::detecting:

Good thinking. When I had my GTA 300 I added the notch segment just below nickels when I had programmed a notch mode into it and the nickels increased and I even got greater depth on them. Sent a letter to Garrett, but just got the usual "congratulations on learning your machine" letter.:lmfao:
