when hunting with x terra 50 and hoping to find gold jewellery ,does one dig every tid number from three upwards or are there set numbers that you are more likely to find them on?from reading all the posts and faqfaq,it seems to me if it goes ping you dig,if bur you walk on.i assume silver is on the high end of the scale and gold on the lower end? blowfly.hh

Depends on the size of the ring. I got an 8gramm ring and it came in the same as a $2 coin. most gold rings will follow the ring pull track

Look at the table of targets and the picture of the targets in this review:

The highest ID I can recall, I believe was for a large gold "high school class ring" reported by Jackpine Savage in the high 20's.

If you want to find gold jewelry, you're going to become very familiar with aluminum of all shapes and sizes, lead shot, lead fishing sinkers, .22cal cartridges & slugs etc

As most will attest to, rings can read just about anywhere across the X-Terra TID spectrum. Size, shape, K weight, base material, alloy composition, angle of approach etc. will have a huge impact on the TID. I have one 14 k gold band that has been worn through. If I hold the "ends" together, it provides a much higher reading than when it was found buried with the two "ends" separated. If you have a ring that has been "broken", try scanning it as I have described. That is an interesting study in itself. Here is one of the posts I made previously regarding some of the rings I've found. Note that the title of my original post was also entitled "rings and things".

Exactly! the mens bands I found with the 70 read from just above nickel (13-14) up to the low 20's. then there was that ONE nice 20K Zinc reading!
