Ring found in Va Beach some time ago. Type of stone or how to tell what type or if it is real? I guess I should just take it to a jewelers. Looks like numbers "172" on inside of band? <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

Looks like jade, like a piece some rock and gem hunter tumbled then mounted in the ring that he/she may have cast themself.
