MY SECOND GUESS IS A SUSPENDER CLIP....
found in a field where an 1834 bust 5 cent was also found....don't think electrical.... if not a pheasant leg band then the patent could be 1870's.
my guess is the round part fit into a hole on the other end somewhere that is broken off ?????
Nothing over 1900's ever found there.
