Actually my jewelry store has them still and he told me what they mean BUT lol I forgot. Maybe go to your local jewler and see what they say. Still common even though lots of my rings are VERY old.

I saw my jeweler, reverse intaglio but he agreed didnt make any sense due to stone being so dark it would never show through

this may sound crazy but try looking at it with a black light maybe it will show through the stone.
