ring changed color

a while back the sterling silver ring I found turned to a gold color for a few hours, I took a photo of it when it was silver and after it had turned to the gold color, look at the photos, am I wrong or did it change colors? This is not a trick, it is the same ring and I did'nt do anything to it.

You must have the golden touch.

You need to touch some of my rings.....lol

HH,

Now..........if you just get those words in side to change to 14K............you are on to something.

It's a magic trick I tell you.......

Can you keep a secret?

I think everyone has exercised their sense of humor on this because they don't have the foggiest idea what would cause such a thing. Nor do I. You're obviously hoping for a serious answer to your question, so I'll ask you a few things first:

What exactly does it say inside the ring? Are you absolutely sure it's really sterling?

Do you wear the ring? And if so has it come in contact with any unusual chemicals, cleaning agents, etc.

What did you clean it with?

Were the photos taken in different lighting? The one on the table appears to be in natural or fluorescent light, the other in incandescent. The one on your finger looks like it has the reflection of a light bulb to the left of the flash reflection.

Here's a bit of assay trivia: silver mixed with up to 50% gold will show no gold color at all if it's not alloyed with any other metals also. Around 50-55% gold will show a color like the ring on your finger under certain lighting conditions. It's what we called "green gold" in the assay lab. It's an old smugglers trick to cast jewelry in a 50-50 gold silver alloy and mark it sterling or 925 to avoid excise taxes or export/import restrictions on gold in certain countries, especially China and Southeast Asia. Also lessens the chances of robbery. Chances are that's not what you have, but it would be super cool if it turned out that way!

I'm not really hoping for a serious answer, I just wanted to see if other people could see the color change or if I was going crazy.

Question 1. Below is a closer photo of the word inside the ring.

Question 2. I do wear the ring except when I am detecting or taking a bath or washing the dishes. I try not to get stuff on it.

Question 3. My friend gave me some silver polish stuff that I used to clean it.

Question 4. Both photos were taken while sitting at my computer with the lamp to the left of me. The one were it is the gold color I held my hand up in front of the computer, the one where it is silver I had put it on my computer desk. I found the ring last summer and it was silver until March 21st when it turned the gold color for the day, then it went back to the silver color which it still is now.

Why would it be super cool if it is the kind of ring you think it might be?

So can I...... (A Magician never tells his secrets)

yea, I can keep a secret

It would be cool first because it would be about 12K gold without showing any gold color. Second because it would be extremely rare to find one. This type of gold is usually worn only to get through customs, etc., and once it gets to its destination the gold is normally parted out and sold or stored as pure gold. It isn't made for jewelry, but to steal gold or avoid detection. A scratch test or nitric acid test would show as silver, but it could be detected by specific gravity. If it contains gold it will be unusually heavy for its size.

Again I seriously doubt that is what you have. I'm only letting you know that such things do exist.

just kidding!..i would be happy just to find a ring!..don't find many!..used to!.....back in the 70's mostly on sports fields!..

If you wear the ring, it's possible the acid and natural oils from your skin may have made the color change. When I wear silver, it turns blackish bronze. I have no idea why and I don't know $(%*# about metals, just a thought.

That could be.

I know my mom and myself can not wear silver because it will turn the blackish bronze and you can see it on your skin.
