I asked him how he came upon the idea and he said, when I saw the new polaroids, it was just instantaneous.

...I made money the hard way; by spit-shining shoes for a dollar a pair or taking the dog-watch of lazy recruits.

I really didn't have the money to fly back home after boot camp and being already married, I didn't want to ask the folks for it.

After boot camp, I actually took a military hop from San Diego to Little Rock, via Yuma, AZ.

The money I sweated for was spent on our return trip, driving the gas-guzzleing Pontiac back there for Advanced Training. We did it on a wing and a prayer. It was an adventure all its own.
