I did as you suggested and it turns out that it is the 1/8 inch adapter on the machine itself. My husband had just bought a pair of headphones and luckily they had the 1/8 inch jack so I could try it out. It is the machine and not the adapter from Sun Ray. Thanks guys for your help. HH Diane
