Reverse disc pays off !!

Hi all

Complaining about the poor performance of the all metal mode of the Sov in another thread, I was advised by Oldbeechnut to try the reverse disc, that means searching in P/P mode, and checking in disc.

Waow ! what a difference. Once the threshold is stable, you get no falsing, no masking and a larger and deeper detection pattern.

I found the objects on the first picture at stunning depths with the 10" tornado :

The copper furniture decoration just over 16"

The Dutch coin (diameter 33mm, pure nickel) over the 12"

The tiny silver chain at about 3"

While hunting I found also TWO gold rings at more usual depths, so my first outing under "reverse disc" label is frankly a success.

Thank you Oldbeechnut !

OOOOOOOOO'no the secret is out...Great finds!!! Hey you can thank CJC for this style of hunting from his books. I have been using it for 17 months now and it is for me the best way to get the excal to pick the targets up that others have missed. Have the ability to discriminate these deep targets is a big Advantage. Hey, can you help JASONSPAZ1 on your other thread with the sov..I know the excal but not the sov..........Great Finds Again, Remember now you have two detectors........... in one.........Joe

So let me know if I'm reading this right. On the Sov GT intsead of using all-metal and tracking or fix just use the pinpoint mode to hunt in all metal and then use disc to check the signal? I have to confess that I tried the track and fix all-metal modes and always found better depth and signal strength with disc. I'll have to try the pinpoint mode and see how mine works. Thanks for posting this. --Jerry

:thumbup:WTG congratulations

Hey I'm new to this machine. I just got and want to try beach hunting..I'm going to search in the P/P but what did you mean by checking the disc? how do you do that...? can I call someone? I really would like to ask few questions about settings since i'm new to this. here is my number 732-671-4537..ron......thanks again

Whenever i hunt in Reverse i keep falling over backwards.........

What is meant when you get a signal in all metal you then switch to Disc. and see if it is a good target. If you get no response you may have to dig a little to get your coil in there then check again. Most of the time all metal is deeper............

vfr800 you are the man.........

couple vid's, if you live in jersey, check out Surfdigger's video's and his facebook page
he is always on top of what is happening and a great help to anyone who asks.......http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=54483518009

Kellyco delivered my New Excal ll late yesterday afternoon so I was out on the beach at daybreak this morning with it! I also own a Sov. GT. With the GT, i tried "reverse detecting" (A.M. & P.P.), first, then found running in Disc worked out "best", (for me, on MY beach). Now with the New Excal ll I find I like "Reverse detecting" with it BETTER than Disc mode! The Excal seems opposite to the GT in what works "best"! With the GT, I found Disc would pick up deeper targets than A.M. and P.P., yet with the Excal A.M. and P.P. seems to pick up the deeper targets better than the Disc. mode! It is easy to test this out, just find a deep target, and try it both ways. Sure enough,(with MY machines), the Excal and the GT are opposite in which works best! Now the GT has a 12 x 15 SEF on it, where the Excal has the stock 10" slimline coil on it.

Could there actually be a difference in the electronics between the GT and the Excal? The GT certainly has more options in it's switches and modes than the Excal.:wiggle:

Good info Beachnut, are you on the east coast or west, fl., cal.? Like to keep up on what is what and where. Also, when you get out with both next time, and you have got to know the excal II better..do a side by side for us. I just did a side by side with my new Garrett LS, and the 8 in excal at OcMD...the excal 8 held even with the LS in Am on depth..but I am still learning the LS so I am hoping to get more out of it. ...Joe

Thanks Joe, I notice you do the same little trick with the sens. it saves alot of time instead of digging. This week has been one of my best so far, in 4 hunts i got a total of 21 1/2 rings yes half a ring of that 8 are gold rest silver and junk rings. Wish you could have made it........HH

We live, (and hunt), in Central Coastal California, at the exact location that Bugs Bunny was always trying to find, and get to in his cartoons, Pismo Beach! (Bugs kept making a wrong turn at "Albuquerque", so he would say in his toons), Not sure if Bugs ever made it, but we sure did! My wife and I will be trading off between using the GT and the Excal ll so when we get a chance,,,:twodetecting: we will try to compare them on some deep targets. The problem is when we hit the beach, its all work, and no time to play, cause we both know thare be treasure out thare, some where!!! Great video's by the way! How do you get the sound in the video, (from your headphones)? Where do you put the camera when you film? I did not know there was an "Oldbeechnut" when I chose Beachnut as a name. It just best described what both my wife and I are, total Beachnut's! My apologies for not straying on topic.

One BIG Pismo >>>>>> Beachnut!

That makes sense to me : the difference you experienced between the Excal and the GT is due to....the SEF coil. From a pdf-test online by SEF themselves, and according to general Thunting techniques, a larger coil loses sensitivity to smaller targets, so I do not believe that a SEF that BIG would pick up a target the size of an US dime deeper thant the 10" stock tornado.

I start to notice some targets here, with the tornado, that do respond in P/P and not in disc. Noticed only three in six hours outing, two of them were fishing lead weights at tremendous depths, the third one was a 20 eurocent coin at something like 12/13".

The SEF would be great I think on larger coins, also larger rings, watches, etc.

Hey Joe that method goes back well before CJCs book, might even be in one of Andy Sabishs early books. its a great way to hunt, but its time consuming. if minelab would put the adjustable iron/quickmask on the sov you wouldnt have to do that:thumbup:

Excellent videos!

Sure it can ! The videos were made using an Excal !

After something like 30 hours reverse disc on wet sand, I become very good in hearing those faint signals in the P/P mode, that dthe disc won't signal.

A vast majority of those signals turn out to be keepers at impressive depths.

Nick, I just got back from Mexico and agree totally with your statement "faint signals". I kept a M Detecting log and Reverse hunting as per OBNut and that video, i came home with 12 rings 7 Silver 5 gold of which one was a wedding band with 9 stones. I remembered someone said listen and go slooooowly boy as the song says"I'm a believer"
I will clean the silver and take pics, i am headed back down in Jan. for two months, really looking forward to it.:clapping:
