I got my F70 and have found some good things with it at around disc=10, thresh= -5, sens=70's, 3H tone and usually SL mode. I keep reading how some are using AT mode or disc=0 and 1 or 2 tones. I thought ya'll were nuts and didn't pay much attention to it. Sooo i finaly decided to see what that was all about and did some testing.
I can't believe how much stuff I have probably been missing. I guess I didn't realize how much a bit of iron or other junk close enough to a coin, relic, etc affected what could be detected. While in disc mode I had various dimes, quarters, dollars next to an old rusty screw or nail. If the screw was close enough to the coin, i got nothing, until they were separated far enough. In the back of my mind I somewhat knew about this, mainly from my oooolld detector i had. I guess I thought the F70 would just go ahead and pick that coin up even if it was right on top of the screw, and just disc out the screw. It still does a heck of a better job but even in the disc 0 mode, which i like better than the AT mode, still only picks up the screw and the coin won't register at all. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that even in disc 0/AT mode, a coin can only be found if the junk is far enough away from it. (or smaller than the coin). I have more testing to do, any suggestions would be much appreciated as far as tips on how to use disc0 more effectively. (videos would be great!)
The reasoning on just 1 or 2 tones is completely beyong me though...
