Returned to the Old Mill

Got about an hour of hunting in. The ground was still frozen in some spots, but I did find a few good relics, including the copper bracelet, and some old buttons.

I also found the bottle dump, but it was frozen solid. No doubt I will be returning shortly.

That can be cleaned up nicely polishing it with a rotary tool using a small felt disk and jewellers rouge. Or....a light coat of nail polish will also add some more life to it.

All were found with the CXIII, which has proven to be a great relic detector. This mill dates back to the mid 1800's, and it appears that the relics and bottles and button are from that period and later. Once the thaw comes I will get back for the glass.

About a half mile away is what is left of an old farm which was near an old village which was known to be part of the underground railroad. I have found numerous flat buttons going back to the earlier part of the 19th century.

I am torn which way to go next time. There are more re;lics by the mill, but the finds are newer and there us more junk. The older site has yielded less, but I can hunt with more sensitivity and a bigger coil.

ANyone know anything about 2 piece metal buttons? My guess is this one is late 1800's.
