Returned to Fentress, Texas today...what a great day! ............

Early this morning I decided to return to Fentress, Texas and take a few more pictures for the slide show that I am making. This has to have been one of the best days I have had in a long time. I arrived home about an hour ago. It was a long, hot, but productive trip to Fentress, Texas. I just finished editing the pictures. There are 20 new pictures to add to the slide show. The highlight of the entire trip was meeting some folks that lived there. They were having a Bar-B-Q dinner and I was invited. I found the cemetery that I missed last time. It was down the highway about

Our was normal.. I had a rough patch on my lathe. I was doing some machining, and I kinow better than to do that when I am tired. But, dummy that i am, I went ahead... munched my hand up in the chuck. That will be out of commission for a couple of days.

But maybe this time i will learn :):

Good to see you getting out and around. If you have a water machine, that old swimming hole may present an opportunity.

hard to sit down with those horseshoes in the way? New friends are always a good thing!
Looking forward to the slideshow!

that is when accidents happen. Thank goodness the injury is not permanent. In the near future, if I am able to do so, I would like to go back and hunt the swimming hole area, the ball field, and look for a treasure that Eddie Rangel told me about. When I go back, I will take an extra metal detector with me for him to use. He is a nice person and appears to be someone that enjoys life. Take care of your hand, don't let it get infected. Kelley (Texas) :)

Been there bud, we never really grow out of it:sadwalk:
Take care of it and do not do any dishes! Bacteria and all that;)

read about Texas knowing how to put on a BBQ, from your picture and new friends, I can see they sure are set up to do it right.... Looks like it may be all home built also. I see the pig roasters here made from 275 gallon oil tanks. They mount them on trailers and go around doing pig roast for folks..... Been to a few of them and really good. That little town sounds like it might offer a few opportunity's to detect also. I like little hunts in small pockets... The fun privilege of being able to do it, and if you find something, icing on the cake.... Nice way to start the day for sure....

Looking forward to the slide show

Fred,

That is some smoker your friends have there!! (Nice idea to have the smoke-stack chamber for sausages etc.)

Quality time in Texas!!!:beers:

Does my old heart good!

Thanks for sharing!:)

Great day for you Friend,

CJ

large, and I do me large, Bar-B-Q pits that are mounted on wheels and they attend "meets" where you can win prizes. One of the men, Mike, has a room full of trophies that he has won while competing in these Bar-B-Q cooking contest. Mike once told me that he had over $20,000 invested in that Bar-B-Q trailer. Kelley (Texas) :)

but I did not know if it would be allowed. The folks from the coast of the Gulf States are asking for volunteers to come down and help on the cleaning of the beaches and living beings...thus the picture. Please let me know if you want me to post the picture. The oil spill has caused much damage. Kelley (Texas)

does it have to do with cleaning her? It would not bother me but some may go into shock mode.
Your choice.........;)

BBQ competitions, and the Texans do awesome! I can hardly stand to see all that beautifully cooked meat and not being able to sample it, er.......in truth i want to pig out! :sadwalk:

to the Bar-B-Q tournaments. The chili can be so hot that it will blister your tongue, and if you are driving home and can't make it to the bathroom, you may burn a hole in the seat of your pickup truck. Kelley (Texas) :)

RFDTV Fred. We really like that channel... All farm stuff from all over the USA, cattle, horses equipment....
When we used to go to my daughters in Charleston SC, one of the people who lived next door has a home made cooker, Looked like the one in your picture only much smaller. He was always smoking/cooking on it and used to bring over smoked fish of some sort a lot. Really good....They know how to use them for sure. I did see one here that a guy made from a refrigerator. He used to smoke
bluefish in it and Connecticut River Shad. I thought the bluefish were awesome smoked, but the shad, not so much....to bony. Fact, right now we are in shad season on the river. The do a planked shad thing. Like cooking a shad on a roofing cedar shingle. If your smart you will toss the fish away and eat the shingle....better tasting....

Like some of these other guys, I have watched many of those BBQ cookoff shows and brisket is always on their menu. Would you believe I have never tried it ? Don't know why. But looking at it BBQ'd sure looks great. Gonna have to give it a whirl sometime. Just downright nice when you meet some new folks that are as hospital as they were. That'd be a memory I'd savor as much as you did the brisket Fred. Just a cool post thru and thru :beers:
