Retiree

New member
Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum.

I'm retired and am a full-time RVer, traveling and camping in New Mexico for the most part.

I have an ACE 250 that I use primarily in local tot lots, picking up a handful of change now and then. I don't expect to get rich doing this. I primarily do it for two reasons: I like looking for lost stuff and I enjoy the exercise that I get. Okay, three reasons: it gives me a break from the wife.

Anyway, that's my story. Glad to be here!

Welcome! Ol' retiree myself- with Ace and sniper coil. I let the youngsters try to interpret the squeaks , squawks, and hums- trying for that deep valuable that is always 1" deeper than my Ace. I mean the ads prove it-right?

Welcome to the fourms. My first detector was the 350. Found many nice items and a few gold rings with it.

Thanks. Thus far I've pulled quite a few coins but nothing "good". Mostly clads and newer silver. Found my first piece of .925 silver the other day...... a small stud earring. LOL

Having fun though! Just wish this New Mexico ground wasn't so hard!

Welcome! There are a million reasons why we metal detect! I think your reasons are in the top percentile! Get your camera out and show us what you found.

Thanks! I would post photos but now sure how to make the file size smaller so that this site will upload them.

Welcome Bud,
Your on one of the Best Forums out here.
Ace 250. Found my first gold earring with that machine, solid nickle signal.
I've added another tot lot killer in the same price range as the 250.
The Tesoro Mojave. Luvin this little machine.
I am truly impressed with it's abilities around iron and in a bed of nails.
I have a Minelab Explorer XS ,Sovereign GT and MXT. None will touch it in nails.
A worthy second machine. The south west is loaded with iron, masking a lot of nice finds.
And as I understand the Mojave is very good on jewelry.
Sadly I as of yet , to swing over any gold with the Mojave.
Soon to be retiree myself and RVing.
Enjoy. Terry

Thanks for the welcome Terry. Much appreciated. You're gonna love being retired and the RV lifestyle.
Been working my 250 pretty hard but have yet to find any precious metals. Kind of been looking at the Ace 400 but would like to find some gold with the 250 first. I'm in a new location for the next 3 months, in between 2 small New Mexico towns. Hoping to explore them later on this week.
Take care,
Bud

Hey Bud,
Sorry for the late reply. Way to busy this time of year.
I’m curious how that lil 250 is running down thar in NM?
Also , I’m not sure you will find native gold with it much under a gram.
I’ve found it good on jewelry. Though I’ve never tried it in gold country.
I believe that lil Mojave would do pretty well on that hotter ground down thar.
Since your a traveling man, I’d stop by Tesoro and see if they would tune the Mojave for you with a widescan coil on it.
The widescan; DD coil is much better in Hot ground.
Take Care
Terry

Hello Terry. Good to hear from you.

So far the 250 has been good to me. I've mostly used it on tot - lots and city parks, but did manage to sweep a couple of Canyon mouths. Found a lead or pewter button but mostly spent cartridges and lead.

I took delivery a few days ago of an Ace 400. Hoping to get out tomorrow morning, Saturday, to try it out. Think I'll go under the bridge of an arroyo and then hit a soccer field if it doesn't get to hot.

Take care,
Bud

Download a software called irfanview (irfanview.com) It's a freeware but donations are accepted. It will allow you to change the file size, picture size, and file type for photos. There are others but this one is pretty easy to use and makes a good viewer too, just need to play around with it a bit. Make sure you install the plug in package.
