As I was searching for setups on the S-1 probe I came across this older post about looking for gold inland.

I never really gave it too much of a thought as if I hit it with my GT I would be ecstatic no doubt, but now I am really thinking to shift gears with my detecting and "hone" in on finding more gold rings in my local parks and schools. (No real beaches for me in the area)
As much as I want to devote time in learning more of my sovereign's operation and find coins, finding rings sounds exciting!
Dbsmokey, you made the comment, "I have found ALL of my rings behind goal posts. Having played soccer myself, and knowing it is not within the rules to play with jewelry, that's where many rings will be. I have witnessed people launching their coat/sweatshirt/etc behind the goal (with their jewelry) in order to get into the game"
Wow lol I would of never of even thought to look here for rings lol I am so stuck on deep old silver coins. NOT that I ignore lower tones with the GT, I figured finding a gold ring in the local park is equivalent to finding that needle in a hey stack lol.
Ron from Michigan, you make the statement, "I was stationed at KAFB in Albuquerque NM my gold ring finds were in the hundreds using old TR detectors. My point, most detector user's notch nickles and look for silver.Back then it was a lot of work and with today's modern detectors still require a lot of work shifting through tabs and other trash.
hundreds? Wow! I am highly impressed with your ring finds! With gold pushing 1600.00 an ounce, I am re-examining my current hunting scheme and prioritizing! don't get me wrong, I love to find coins especially silver if I can find it. Heck, silver is knocking at $40.00 an ounce! But I have 800 acres of public parks at my disposal with baseball, football, soccer, frisbee fields and enormous tot lots in my home town and I am not even touching them.
I am asking everyone here: where do I look in these places? FWCrawford (Felix) once was telling me about finding rings in tot lots. I have been kind of tossing the thought around about hitting them but have been so adamant about getting out and finding old coins with the machine lol. I have to say, I feel I am off to a good start. But since reading this post from Oct 16th, 2010, it got my blood flowing for gold
and it is something I never ever concentrated on....
Like the saying goes, if you want to be good at something, concentrate on it. <--- this is what I need to do.
See, I never got into sports, not even in high school as I just didn't have any interest in them. I was into fishing, antique cars, hunting and metal detecting ( focusing on finding coins) Now, my interests have shifted more into metal detecting and have nothing to do with antique cars or hunting but still do a little fishing from time to time. Detecting has really come to the forefront for me.
From what I have read here and learned out in the field with the few rings that I have found, rings register all over. The ring I found this past week (if I remember correctly) registered around a pretty steady 136 and from what (I can hear) sounded deep toned and smooth. The other junk ring (I think) came in around 177. My wife's ring is REAL /14K gold and is nice and smooth with a deep tone @ 132 on my meter. The ring I found over at the farm property (925 silver) came in at 177 as well. I surmise from this if it has a nice smooth deep steady tone DIG IT! right? lol.
I guess it all boils down to where I should concentrate my efforts in this fields. Suggestions? Tips? tricks? ideas?
