What response are most of you guys running normal or smooth? And are there any of you vets still using much disc or pretty wide open for everyone?

Most times,response-normal,at times, when in iron I will use long,I shy away from smooth. As far as disc, most times I hunt I am in Ferrous tones and use very little disc. But, when in Concuctive tones I will use a bit more disc, but thats because I only use Conductive when Im on a piece of property where I have to be careful about digging, more selective.
I believe, once one has gotten a handle on the ETrac,it will be a matter of personal preference, experience and the spot they are hunting.
I am always open for something new/experiment, never know what will make it all sound better or work out better for you.
HH,
John

I am running mine in normal with very little discrimination. Most of the time I will just use the stock relic mode if any discrimination at all.

Getting an etrac this summer and I think it might be tough to learn.Ive been reading quite a bit on here and it seems like a lot to learn. Been using a 705 for 1.5 years and its time for a change. The guy I hunt with is using a CTX and kicking my butt.

I too used a 705 for a year so the change isn't super drastic but there is a learning curve ... I've been advised to run a stock program for a while till you get used to it and get Andy's Book ... I only used mine so far for 1.5 hours when my dealer brought it to me and another 2 hours yesterday but it's starting to make sense

Normal about 90% of the time and smooth 10%.
I've used smooth only in extreme junk dense areas and have some success with it. I gradually started to use it after giving it up after a bunch of attempts.
It will tend to key in on the dominant non-discriminant target assuming two are near each other. Persistence is the key IMO.

Smooth is an acquired advanced type setting and i believe it should generally not be tried by beginners.
IMO, get some miles and experience on your eTRAC, basically get to know your eTRAC before you try some of those advanced settings.

As far as discrimination, it depends on the site.
For relatively new parks, etc. with no hope of finding deep silver, i use my custom moderate discrimination pattern.

For old historic sites with a decent probability of finding deep silver, i use minimal to usually no discrimination.
Again, for a beginner, using no discrimination could be a maddening experience especially in a junk dense site.
Took me a while to get used to it but it has paid off big time.
