Response settings who uses what and why?

Hi Guys Gals , just a thought I have been using response setting normal for quite a while now and wandered
if the other 3 settings Long /Smooth / Pitch hold had any merit and if so why?
reading the explorer manual in a setting of normal , when the target signal drops the audio blanks
It also states that in response setting long could give a experienced user a advantage when targets are close together
and also has a potential to offer greater accuracy and depth
Has any one have any views on this topic.
Regards
Jeff

I remember when I got my first XS I was told by a Explorer Guru to keeps things simple. Always remember my first hunt in quickstart where I recovered 11 good targets at excellent depth from an old campground hunted by many detectorists but have to admit really tore up the field as I couldn't pinpoint well not used to a DD coil. Didn't matter as area was isolated at best..In any case
this is going to be an interesting subject and we may all learn a trick or two and like the rest of us have a standard setup but do remember when a plumber fixes one pipe and he may loosen another and of course same goes for an Explorer as change one facet and it becomes a different machine...Seem to remember Bryce stating he hasn't changed his settings in four years so do be careful as what you learned in normal may be lost somewhere along the way and then again you may learn a trick or two

Heck years ago read at least 10 books on the XLT and they all had their plus and minus ways as i tried them all which really made my head spin while my XLT Guru buddy had a simple setup which he learned well, never changed and did extremely well. Again a tip of the hat for the start of an extremely interesting topic and sure going to read every post but doubtful if I will change from normal but one never knows..

Seriously really surprised at the lack of responses and hope my post was not taken in a negative manner but when you dial in so many different headphones and above all ones individual hearing do read every post with a grain of salt as what works for one may not work for another and hobby and Explorer in particuliar is always a learning process.

Long or smooth is best when explorer used without discrimination in ferrous or constant,Sounds smooth is what detector sees under coil without making sound shorter, Normal sound is made shorter to give more clear sound on target. in Iron infested fields and for relics hunting when you want to dig more interesting iron better to use Long-smooth.

I wonder why not many comments Maybe all users have only left response normal and not yet experimented ?

You are probably right Explorers offer so many options and if a new Explorer uses the preset for several weeks guess the normal sounds pretty good to the average Joe and don't fix what aint broke comes to mind. Having said the above with all the headphone varieties and different hearing abilities imagine experimentation could lead to an improvement for many. A wise competent Explorer user once told me keep it simple but again experimentation certainly could benefit the tweaker and make a good unit even better on an individual basis as what works for one may not for another for many reasons. Over the years have seen Explorer users excell with many different settings so that should tell us something...

Hmmmmm Just received my SEF 10x12 coil last week might start playing the tweak game in my test bed ..
seen maybe no one else has ?(on response sounds I mean )
PS If my mad experiments find some thing out will post also have slim line 10.5 coil will test both
could take a few weeks gold festival on here next week then detector comp I will be entering on Sunday

Jeff
