Resetting XS

I read thru the masses of messages and maybe can someone say exactly what is it you do when you reset the XS processor. JIM your the expert, your comments are usually ones that I know are 101%.

ok maybe my post wasnt that clear...I know it resets the XS to factory preset but holding down the start button does exactly the same. Anyone know what the combination is when ya have to pull the battery out whilest turning the machine on???????????

Peter;
There are two types of resets with the explorer.
first is holding the button for 5 sec. That returns to the factory presets.
The other is to remove the battery during the boot cycle ( before the detector screen is reached) and then replacing it after 2-3 min.
This second is the same as "cold booting" a computer. For some reason the computer in the explorer can become unstable due to interference or whatever reason. This cold boot seems to restabilize the computer where the return to factory resets doesn't. the cold boot also maintains the current settings.
Hope this has answered what you are asking.

Thanks , so in essence they basically do the same thing.

When I had a problem with my Explorer I spoke to the tech experts at Minelab. ( Cork, Ireland ) I asked about the resetting of the processor by pulling the battery out on start up. The answer I got, in their own words was! That will do nothing, the only thing to try is putting it back to presets by keeping the power button depressed on start up" removing the battery is just removing the power thats all!!!!!
I didn't question their knowledge and I sent my machine to them for a hot off the production line replacement. Nick UK
