have any of you ever done extensive research to locate an old abandoned road or town site etc? I am researching the lost mines I mentioned earlier and realize that there is much work and driving and looking through old documents etc.

If it were easy everyone would do it.

Years ago I went to several different libarys in my area and checked out books about the history of cities, towns around me.While reading them, I was looking for schools, farms ,whatever caught my attention and would write this info down. I had quite the list. Next I drove to these locations, alot of driving. Most are now paved over wt a buisness, more than half. All n all I found 3 schools that are now someones house. Got permission to hunt 1. Didnt find a thing. lol
Really didnt do me much good other than I know alot about the area I live.

I also found several old maps, good luck witht them. They are extremely crude from long ago. Just a bunch of lines wt no names, schools and P.O.s marked with a huge smudge that covers a half mile.

Hope you have more luck than me.

Stick it out. If you are looking for something specific it will pay... in that you will find the place you were looking for.
