Request of help from Aussie X-Terra uses.

Could some Aussie X-Terra uses confirm whether or not a $1 coin should lock onto 32 on an X-Terra 30 or 30 for the 50 and 70?
The reason I ask, is that I just got my 30 back from Minelab again, and as far as the discrimination goes, they think that it is functioning properly. As far as I can remember, it always used to lock onto 32. The tests that I have done on mine, have a $1 coin showing up mostly as a 32, then from time to time bouncing up to 36 or 40! I had throughly checked the ground for other metal that may interfer with my test and even repeated the process in a second spot, just to be sure.
Also, has anybody had a coin placed a couple of inches outside the coil, show up in pinpoint as being in the middle of the coil?
Any input would be welcome.
Mick Evans.

I have the 70 and 32=$1 / 30=$2 / Sometimes depending how the coin is siting or how wet the soil is can effect the reading. Sometimes a 34 can be a $1 coin and a 28 can be a $2 coin. But when I hear that bleep bleep nice and sweet on those numbers 90% of the time its what it says it is.
Cheers!

My XT-70 generally hit 30-32 for $2 and $1 but I have also seen it bounce between 28 and 34 due to the age/soil/etc of the coin. Since I mostly do beach, the slight rusting of the coin can cause the range.

It is a sweet sound indeed in that range tho sometimes the occasional ally can dampens it.

Thanks guys.
I was starting to think that I was going a bit nuts there for a bit. Although given that the 30 has wider notching. I thought that it might have been a bit more stable than that. I'll take it out for a spin on the week end and see how it goes. Hopefully it will be alright. Minelab replaced the face plate for me, to fix the pinpoint button, so I'm hoping that that will perform as it should. Hopefully, it will be happy sailing from here.

I found a tip on this site that works really well concerning pinpointing, after pressing pinpoint I press pinpoint/detect once more then pinpoint once again, it narrows the area down and is always center of the coil, pinpointing in Prospect mode I found even finer.
cheers,
John

Just curious, how was it damaged in the first place? Or did it just go faulty?
Cheers!

It started to deteriorate about 2 months after a bought it, Jan 2006 a slowly went down hill from there till it became completely unusable by the middle of 2006, at which point after going to Minelab for the first time, it sat in the cupboard.

Thanks for the tip John. No I didn't know that you could do that. I did experiment yesterday with raising the coil and using the tip of the signal to pinpoint with. It works similar to electronically shrinking the target. I tried out your tip, and it works well. I'll put it to good use on Saturday.
Cheers.

Hi Claddagh,
So with your pinpointing when you use pinpoint then press pinpoint/detect, then pinpoint once again are you moving the coil away from the target then moving it back on the target.
