Replacing coil to shaft bolt and wing nut for Explorer.

I noticed one of my fellow detectorist friends was using a stainless steel wing nut and 1/4 bolt and washer assembly to keep his coil attached to his search shaft on his Excalibur.
I have tried this on my Explorer and it seems to work perfectly well with it's serach abilities. Those nylon nuts and bolts are okay until you end up with a broken set.
Has anyone else done this and had a problem that maybe a I am yet to encounter?

I've never broken one of the stock bolts even with some pretty tough terrain, I have bought a half dozen spares way back when I got my explorer but so far no need.. I carry a spare just in case though

Wouldn't it pick up the bolt? If I am at the beach I have to hold my scoop behind me or I will pick it up. I would think that a stainless bolt would make it false. Don't know though, let us know how it does. I have never broke a bolt and I have extras.

I would think it may effect the performance, but they claim it dont as the bolt is not moving compared to the coil, so it dont see it, now if the coil was moving and the bolt was not then it would make a bigg difference.
I still will used the nylon bolt too and I too have never broken one for the Explorer or the Sovereign. I think that some that break them just tighten then too tight as the have the factory loop stand.

Hardnose, metal by the coil is not best but stainless steel is difficult for any detector to "see" so it would be the best choice.
If you are having trouble keeping the coil tight then try this, remove coil from shaft and sand lightly the two washers at the coil end of the lower shaft in one direction(best)we're just trying to rough it up so it grabs.then put it back together.
As to the glass reinforced coil bolt breaking.... I think it's possible but it's a very strong glass impregnated plastic.
