Replacing black gasket on a BHID??

Grunter

Active member
Anyone replace the black one with the red one on their own. If so how do you torque the screws to insure it is uniformly seated? Is it an easy task?

Anyone out there. My posts must stink I can't get anyone to respond. If noone owns a BHID or ever changed the o-ring on their own I quess Whites did it. I'll go straight to the source from now on. I won't bother to post again.

Sorry you weren't satisfied with the service. Not everybody checks this fourm hourly.

As I recall, I read something on the Whites forum to the effect that if the black seal hasn't failed, leave it alone.

Also, that correct installation of the red seal is tricky.

Also, that the projections on the top, cover half are very easy to crack and the usual kind or techniwues for equally tightening a flange are required plus a torque wrench calibrated in inch/oz. of course yiu would need the correct tightening sequence and torque value - obtainable from Whites (probably)

My advice - send it to Whites, they work cheap and good.

Thanks, lytle 78 your response was very informative and most appreciated. The reason I was wondering about my post is that 49 others looked at it and I assumed they had a passing interest in the subject I won't tackle the task on my own, I will send it to Whites. Thanks again.

I have changed the black seal to the red on a few BHID. As stated, it can be tricky because the red seal has to stretch to fit into the seal groove. It is slightly smaller in length than the black seal it replaces. It is the same seal that the Dual field uses. The installation will try your patience because there are so many screws that must be tightened without pinching the o ring between the cover and body. A staggered torque pattern is used and tightened slightly past snug. Have never had an issue with leakage but as you say, cant go wrong with sending into White's...

Grunter,

Yoir gracious thank you makes me embarassed for my sarcastic opening sentence. Sorry about that.

Beat of luck. The clear cover on mine has one "tab" with a stress crack now and I'm going to leave my black gasket alone.

I suspect I speak for many in asking: what's a BHID?
