I'm a noobie to the etrac. As i swing at an average pace (not fast or slow) i will get a solid signal (audible) and it will just up and disappear like a fart in the wind. I will stop and swing slowly in all directions and no signal????any suggestions? Appreciate all help thank you.
Try holding your ON/OFF button till you see RESET on the screen, and hunt like this for a while...You may be trying to use too much SENSitivity for your area.
Thanks for the responses. I think that a reset would be my best option since thru my experience or lack thereof i may have my machine out of wack thanks and happy hunting
Sometimes after the Etrac processes a signal it decides it is not a good signal and nulls. I use 6 seconds per swing: it's slow but works to allow signal processing.(I have heard of 10 seconds per swing but it seems very difficult to move that slow!)
1. The response falls in a DISC area and produces no audio/TID
2. It is on the fringe of detection and is too weak to be heard
3. It is masked by iron, and only barely was able to produce a signal
4. It may be internal noise caused by external interference
You can always switch to QuickMask screen and double check or use pinpoint (all metal) and see if a signal appears again. Most likely it was a deep iron nail and it gave a chirp when swept just right - then appears to disappear thereafter. You should be looking for repeatable signals - though it may not be repeatable in both sweep directions on the deep ones.
Its sounds like iron but iron is not a "Solid signal", Iron will give a signal but they are not a coin signal. It takes time to learn that "Chirp" and just pass by it.
