repairing an old sovereign is it worth it

Hi there, I have strayed from The X Terra forum, to ask if it is worth repairing an old sovereign which I have inherited. It was used up until july when its owner a good friend of mine passed away. I havent seen the mahine yet, but its 20 years old give or take, not sure exactly, and still goes but is worse for wear with loose knobs and possibly some wiring. I would hate to waste a perfectly good detector so any ideas? I have written to minelab to ask them but I want some general veis as well..... I only saw this detector in action 4 years ago it was going brilliantly, and we found some nice silver coins...... and plenty of rubbish. thanks so much looking forward to iinput.

I emailed Minelab a few months ago to ask if they could put a new faceplate and knobs on my XS2a-pro and they said no problem, it was $35/hr + parts. They also said they could make sure it's properly calibrated.

hh,
Brian

:rolleyes:Yep I agree:thumbup: I'll even go so far as to say they are worth fixing, but if ya feel it is just to much for ya:stretcher: I'm sure there are plenty of :minelab: lovers that would take it of yer hands.
Good luck and swing low.....swing slow.:twodetecting:

Respectfully,
Larry

Me thinks, after also getting a reply from Minelab........... that its a go, I first have to actually see the machine, but it was brilliant when I last saw it going. have to wait till monday to ring the person who has it to describe it for me.

thanks guys, I may be sson posting all my beach rings in this forum, as I must say the xterra (bless it) is a pig on the beach below the dry sand. I will swear black and blue that the xterra is a brilliant detector in parks etc. I love it, even the change in hunting type from NZ to England....... it worked althoug it hates cellphone towers, power lines and electric fences. It found me a hammered ssilver half groat, and an 1700s silver thimble amongst other rubbish.

Hi Moa, Welcome back to civilisation down under LOL, I had the use of an old Sovereign a while back & found it really good, took a bit of learning.
