I posted this for those do-it-yourselfers that may wish to attempt a repair before sending it in for repairs. Sorry, I took no photo's, would have been helpful
As usual, my 3 year old pro pointer was covered in mud so I rinsed it off, let it dry, then checked it for operation. Its performance was lacking. I couldn't detect a quarter beyond 1/2 inch. I was bummed but I decided to disassemble it and clean the dirt that has accumulated inside (it gets in there). I removed the screw in the battery compartment. Removed the plastic battery insert and the circuit board came out with it. Be careful because once it was freed up, it slid out fast and the 3 solid wires connecting it to the coil are not very long. I found dirt had collected on the traces in various points like iron filings to a magnet. I rinsed the board in clean water while I used a toothbrush and lightly removed the dirt. I let it dry for a couple hours in the sun (should have been a good 24 hrs but I want to go out in the morning) and reassembled it. Everything works as new now. I don;t think its as water resistant around the LED as it was before I disassembled it but I didn't have to send it in for repairs or buy a new one. BTW, if Garrett can't fix your pro pointer they will give a 40% discount toward a new one....that's nice to know.
