Repair for a Excal 1000

silvercoinboy

Well-known member
New forum member- I have a Excal 100 that has a broken case where the coil wire plugs in, and the tube is also broken where it meets the coil. Real bad news is that it does not turn on. Should I send it into Minelab or are there better options? How is their repair service?

Send it in and know up front that U R looking at a minimum 45 day wait on the inside. Seems that their repair operation is getting better though. With what U have wrong I would sent it to Minelab but that is just me

Now that the season is getting cold that's is what I would do. Keep us posted

Silvercoinboy, send an email to Bill Branin (highplainsdrifter.bill@gmail.com) he repairs Minelabs. On the east coast near N.C. I believe. If you use him please let me know how it worked out for you. GH, Don

FYI He is in Las Vegas NV

The Beach hunting season starts in September and ends in April. That is if you looking for gold and coins? If your just out for fresh drops then I guess you could see it as getting cold and ending?? That being said you don't say if the unit is in warranty. Or if your a just a surf hunter or suba diver. But even if it is, you had to do something to bang it up that badly and i doubt its would be a warranty.
I got from you post the machine still works correctly? If so and its out of its warranty. I would simply repackage the whole thing myself and not miss the hunting season. Use your head it don't have to be a 300 ft water proof detector if you just water hunting the beach. Check out this site and other sites for ideas on water proofing just about any machine made.
I am just counting the days down waiting for more sand to move back in the ocean for a good season of digging gold. I would just go buy another unit if you decide to mail it for repair. The new unit should pay for itself in no time at all.

BCN, that may be true for us up here in the NE. I believe the OP is in the military and in Europe. It may be diffrent over there.

If your in Europe Minelab Ireland have a very good reputation for fixing things properly the first time round, may be worth a shot, turn round is fast too from the few coments i've read

Oh I missed that, oops! But still the rest of the post is good info.
